Any thoughts on how this little guy is going to perform compared to older Sony DAPs. Obviously it seems like battery life is the biggest improvement.

Any speculation about better SINAD, amp power, etc? Anyone looking forward to seeing measurements (hopefully within the week)? Speculation...? What do you think?

I'd really like an outlier, great performing DAP, but I'm not sure it's going to end up being that... Will it outspec the Apple dongle...?

The US site makes no sense (or am I missing something??):

MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW) 0.4–1.1 mW (32Ω)

Sony-asia site is maybe clearer:

MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT (JEITA 16Ω/MW) 35mW + 35mW

no, it's gibberish, I think something must have got lost in translation between engineering and marketing (and finding this JEITA standard for power measurement is isn't turning up much).

I don't care about measurements, they'll sound good or they won't. If I hadn't just bought a new Sony phone I would buy this Walkman.

It will outspec the previous entry dap from sony. But it is gonna be a stretch beat offerings like the Shanling m3 ultra or even the M3X which you can still get from linsoul. The zx707 does look like the much better option of the 2. As for use as a dac it will be interesting to see how it compares to the apple dongle

Agreed.

EDIT: actually seeing their size difference, the 306 if measuring well, could be a nice contender.

Honestly, Sony DAPs measured at ASR or L7 Audiolab thus far have been really really poor.

I'd not get my hopes up, if I were you.

In the meantime, instead of waiting for Sony to get it's shit together, check out the few DAPs that actually perform really well.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I know Lotoo's higher-end DAPs test well. What other options are good candidates?

Fair point. I've had a few DAPs before but their OS performance was never smooth and battery life pretty abysmal.

Not really interested in the Chinese market either.

Honestly, getting a cheap phone with good battery life and SD support, paired with a dongle seems like the better DAP to me.

Because if you ain't goin chinese, DAP prices are beyond mental.

I've thought about that. Just update my phone with a huge HD for example.

Just curious if it will be a disruptor in anyway. The NW-A306 seems to be at a somewhat competetive price new but performance will tell more I guess.
