I just got my first pair of Sennheiser 560S and i absolutely love them.

I bought them based on the recommendations on reddit.

I expected boring sound, shitty cable, unbearable clamp, cheap plastic as a lot of reviewers said.

The sound is best described as crispy clean, it's not boring, not overly detailled, the cable isn't that bad, the clamp is good, the plastic is sturdy.

I have them paired with a Fiio K3, well except the benefit of the built in DAC, they can run from the shitty realtek onboard audio just fine, I'm not honestly sure I needed the K3, hell, they get loud even from my 100$ phone of four years.

I just learned that reviewers whine a lot.

If onboard audio has no audible noise or distortion, whilst providing enough volume, you don't need an external DAC/amp.

I drive 92dB/mW Noires with a 6mW at 16ohm phone (less powerful than an apple dongle) and going beyond 50% volume is too loud for me :)

I've tried to do A/B tests with various PC sound output options, and I agree the difference with external DAC/amps borders on imperceptible. I do use a pretty expensive Monolith DAC/amp unit as my daily driver, but it's mostly because the money is already spent, and the connectivity options (XLR and 1/4") match better with the cables, on which my money is also already spent. So "why not". But when I've switched to mobo output, or when I've transitioned from mobo output to a Fiio K3, I've struggled mightily to detect any difference. I also used a GoXLR Mini for a while and was happy with that (I'd still be using it, if not for issues with audio cutting out intermittently).

Hardware dependent for sure. I have a decent x570 mobo and there's no noticeable difference in noise/clarity compared to my DAC and amp, but not all motherboards are equal in terms of shielding.

Wait until you try them with tube amps.

Edit: I won’t

I have zero temptation with tube amps, (a) because I have very limited desk space with which to luxuriate in audio processing gadgets, and (b) because I have a cat who's a bit of a moron at the best of times, I don't need a scorching hot bulb drawing him in like a moth to flame.

I really love my hd560s too, and I am a proud owner of the hd650, hd660s and ie800 which I love. I thought I wouldn’t need the hd560s since I have the others but nah, it’s actually a great complement to the other sennheisers and sometimes I even prefer them to the others because they sound like a mix from everything sennheiser is good at in that amazing price. I pair them with my ifi go bar and they sound amazing since the go bar is more warmish but when I want absolute clarity and detail and just precision u will pair them with my dragonfly cobalt which also make them sing.
