Today i lost a closed back person (no pun intended) dear to my heart, it's my AKG K553 MK2. i dropped it while cleaning my desk (wife made me do that) and from that moment bass was low on one side. I thought hm this could be a sealing issue, noted also that one earcup is loose, tried to fix it, a nut very small placed in a very awkard area, what do you know i cut the wire. And there goes the life of my beloved k553 and my family of headphones is in turmoil. I'll be soon welcoming a new member but it will never be the same.

What headphone did you lost ? What were you feelings about it ?

I have the same headset (AKG 553 MKII), it broke after a couple months, I got it replaced, and its almost broken again (earcup nut w/e broken same as what you described) just seems to be a badly designed headset in terms of durability; just normal use seems to be enough to break it (I never dropped either).

(I am not really into headsets, I just noticed this post while scrolling down and how I had a somewhat similar experience)

I've been using the original k550s for 11 years now. I wasn't especially careful with them but had no big issues. Of course the pads had to be replaced couple of times and there's a crack on the plastic part of the headband that doesn't really affect anything, otherwise still going strong

There are spare parts available, have you checked if the parts you need is available?

Not sure dropping a pair of fairly heavy cans and then breaking from that rates a "terrible terrible quality" rating. Mine are about 2.5 yrs old and doing fine. Adding thus viewpoint for others who may be researching these....
