Hello all! (Question at the bottom, context from here down)

I’m transitioning out of my DT990’s (mostly to get away from their weight for hours on end lol) for general music listening throughout the day while working and gaming in the evenings.

I have a microphone that I use for both gaming and work meetings (hyperx quadcast) and when running the IEMS through that as an audio source, it’s just slightly quieter than I prefer, even at 100% (hearing is surely damaged from years of guitars and full stacks and small rooms), especially after using Peace to reduce the preamp to a value that doesn’t clip (-6db on a flat eq somehow)

I tried running them through the G6 in direct mode, low gain and they sound fine but it’s more difficult to find a comfortable listening volume because of the larger jumps.

My question; is there any negative impact to reducing the pre-amp to say, -15db even if the audio doesn’t clip after -3db? Or is it simply reducing the overall volume. Or is it just my ears adjusting to IEMS that I think there is even a volume difference between say -15db in peace and 40 in windows and -3db in peace and 15 in windows? (Estimation of values)

I understand definitely wanting to eliminate clipping, but is it detrimental to the audio fidelity to go too far the other way?

Thanks all!
