A case is a must, just doesn't feel safe using one without + better grip, and when you place it on a table it goes on soft.
I got an iphone 11 and that's one generation before ceramic shield but the ads for 11 still showed it being more robust when you drop it.
How often do you replace your screen protectors throughout the life of your phone?
Scratches bother me quite a bit and I would think it's likely the screen protector scratches even easier than the regular screen. So it's a somewhat win because the real screen isn't scratched, but in order to have that benefit you requires replacing the protector.
I’ve replaced the screen protector on my 12 Pro about 3 times now. I’ve had it since release.
Each time was due to a drop and the protector ended up getting cracked. Once was a direct screen impact onto gravely concrete.
Each time the protectors just peel away, revealing the original screen still in perfect condition

I've never had to replace a glass screen protector, but I like having the option and the peace of mind knowing that if it does get scratched up, I can just get another protector for $10.
How many scratches do you typically have on it through the life of a phone?
Very few. I try to take good care of it.
12 Mini here, 14 months in use (bought refurbished). Had to change my screen protector 5 months ago because I did a terrible job glueing the first one.
Had a protector on my huawei before, same protector for three years straight, none to mild scratches only.
Just invest the 15$ for a quite good one (most come in a pack of two). You won’t regret it, but please don’t put your keys in the same pocket as your phone. The camera is not protected whatsoever.
My main concern is how many mild scratches you get comparatively.
If going with a screen protector means on average you'll have 10 scratches in a year, but going no protector means you'd only have 5, I'll stick with no protector.
Of course if they scratch exactly the same then it's probably always a good idea to get one until apple will replace a scratched screen.
Surprisingly the protector is pretty resistant to scratches. The in the past I would replace screen protector a few times a year due scratches and wearing, but I have a had a few that looked good for multiple years for me and my family. My current protector has been on my phone for more than a year and I have put it in the same pocket as my keys and other metal. Now I only replace after it breaks.
I keep my iphones for quite a few years and probably go through 3-4 screen protectors, sometimes the corner chips, sometimes the oleophobic coating wears and fingerprints or smudges stay so I replace it, I get cheap $2-3 screen protectors and they are more than enough. Sometimes I like to try out the matte ones for a while too.
I only had to replace the screen protector of my 7 Plus once, after 5 years of use. Never chipped or anything. Finally cracked after multiple consecutive drops on concrete floor.
I haven't used a screen protector since the BlackBerry days. But you do you.

Just because in one test an 11 didn’t crack compared to a 12 or newer it’s doesn’t escape the fact it’s glass. Glass scratches. Glass cracks. If you don’t want the risk, which is there regardless of the advertising bullshit companies will serve you, then a screen protector is logical.
Many people don't use one and have had no issues, many will have installed a screen protector from day one, and many are walking around with broken and scratched displays.
It certainly doesn't hurt to use one and it will protect it from scratches, however as most breakages occur from the edges of the display, it's unlikely to protect it from a drop if it catches it on a weak spot.
I read through a Google search that if you have a scratch on the front screen for example, it can potentially be more at risk of cracking there from a drop, where it might not have cracked if it had had no scratches.
Yup, think about how some glass and tile cutters work, they basically put a deep scratch across the surface and that creates a weak point and allows it to break almost perfectly along that line.
Ceramic shield is just marketing bullshit. It might be a bit more resistant than normal tempered glass, but it's still tempered glass.
It’s a tough call. Going back to when I got my first iPhone back in 2009 I never used a screen protector and never had an issue. Never had anything worse than those micro scratches you have to tilt you phone against the light just right to see. Then on my iPhone 11 I got a decent scratch right in the middle of my screen and wound up living with it for 2 years and it annoyed the hell out of me. Enough so that when I replaced my phone last year with an iPhone 14 I put a screen protector on it. So 1 real scratch in 14 years of having an iPhone, but when I had one I hated it. I guess my answer is you probably don’t need one, but can you live with if it you do get a scratch? If you can’t you should get one.
Same here! Had a iphone 11 pro max without a screen protector and had a scratch after about a year and it annoyed the hell outta me. Finally replaced it with a 14 PM and instantly put a screen protector on it. Dont wanna go tho hell anymore lol

That's how I always looked at it. If a few bucks now saves me a lot of bucks later and won't negatively affect my use or experience, why not?
I didn’t use screen protectors with android phones because they barely last more than a year anyway. I didn’t put screen protector on my SE, and after 2 years it looked like ass. So yeah, it’s a must, unless you enjoy scratches.
I make sure my phones are protected as every 2 years I tend to upgrade and there’s pretty good trade in offers, so I don’t pay for the phone & continue getting great service
I’ve had a screen protector exactly once on all my iPhones. Zero noticeable scratches on my previous iPhones: 5s, 6, 6s, 7 plus, 8 plus, XS, 11, or 12 mini.
I’ve had this 13 for over a year. Display is still completely pristine, but I do keep it in a case 95% of the time.
The ONLY time I’ve had screen damage in all this time was dropping my old 4s on a concrete floor outside of its case, and that was only bezel damage. Not the screen itself.
Obviously this is all purely anecdotal, but maybe it’ll help! I also don’t drop my phone more than once a year, if that!
If you want to have a piece of mind and keep your device as good as possible, I would recommend you an Otterbox Defender + tempered glass.

I always use screen protectors. Today I just happened to see some of the glass scratch. Then check the upper right of my screen to see a crack across the screen. I ordered a 3 pack sp. (arrives tomorrow) so I’m ready. I take good care of my phones but things happen.
Yea, phones look pretty right out the box. Even the coolest case adds bulk. So best to be safe then sorry
Yessssss def get a screen protector and recommend EzFit by Spigen which you can find on amazon. When you apply the screen protector make sure you are in a wide open, at least somewhat sterile, dust less as possible space. That way you can minimize dust from sneaking in between your screen protector and your screen. Oh and of course before the final steps to application, clean your screen to the max with the cleaning tools the screen protector should arrive packaged with
I don’t use case neither a screen protector on my 11, dropped it 3 times so far, and only 1 of them caused any visible damage, when it slipped out of my pocket in the elevator, and because elevator floor is sharp I got few scuffs on the edges in top right corner, and few dings on back glass, bit of chipped paint on camera lens, but nothing more then that.

Yes. Smartphone screen are more durable now, but they are much less scratch resistant. I put my iPhone 11 in a pocket and after 1 month the screen got scratch already.

For the sake of a couple of quid on eBay they are worth it. Dropped my phone loads of times, only ever broke the screen protector once or twice and never the actual screen.
Yes, but I don’t jump to replace screen protectors often, I change once every 1-2 years if I only have hairline cracks. Been this way since iPhone 4.

I’ve never used screen protector since iPhone 4, and I think I never had any scratch that’s major enough to bother me.
I use case though, mostly Apple’s official leather case because I love the aesthetic when my phone is combined with it, don’t really care about them being overpriced or anything.

Definitely yes. I don’t care about drop protection. What really peeves me are micro scratches and the oleophobic coating wearing off. A screen protector is cheapest most hassle free way to solve both these issues.
Just got a screen protector on my iphone and the screen protector is thick so it's not inside the case (got it at an authorized Apple seller store). For example if I place my phone on a table with the screen front down it would hit the glass. Is that normal or are there cases that makes the screen protector be inside? Idk who else to ask and just figured I try my luck with you :) My case is not an Apple iphone case.
You can’t go wrong with Spigen. Their hybrid cases are slim and offer good protection for drops. Their screen protectors fit the cases well and don’t jut out.
It’s definitely weird that your screen protector is that thick. Keep it on for a few months until you see the coating wearing off and creating smudges when you use it and then replace it.
I dropped my SE2 recently and the screen protector did its job by shattering, leaving the screen undamaged. I’d therefore recommend a screen protector if you want to protect your screen. Otherwise, no.
Case? Yes. Screen protector? No, thank you. Maybe for the first few months of ownership if you think you won't take care of it. After that, bareback ftw.
Screen protectors are at the point where it still feels very close to the actual screen it’s protecting. I honestly don’t see why not use one.

Trying to see if most people would want a screen protector. Almost all people do. I didn't know that. I now got a screen protector because that's the smart thing to do the majority says. It's risky without one. 🤔
