Your iPhone 12 is good enough for now unless you want a wider aperture of the iPhone 14 / 14 Plus, or that 48 MP camera of the 14 Pros.

You’re probably fine every 3-5 years. Many (like me) just want the latest and greatest, and can afford to purchase

the iPhone SE 2020 has sensors of the 11, but lens of the 8.

Phases:

11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max

12 Mini, 12, 12 Pro

12 Pro Max, 13 Mini, 13

13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 14, 14 Plus

14 Pro, 14 Pro Max

If you currently have the 12, it's around 2.5 leaps
