Often it can mean you're out of your coverage area. If you're in your coverage area, toggle airplane mode. If that doesn't work, close all open apps, all tabs open on your browser, and then clear the browsing history, and try again

I should mention that I’ve turned off my cellular as the tower nearest to my home is under maintenance.

This notification keeps popping up as soon as the phone steps out of wifi range. Its really, really annoying. Happened 20 times at one point where i has to work right at where the WiFi range ended.

That would make sense as it has nothing to connect to once you leave WiFi range

How else would you like to be informed that you are currently requesting internet access with no way for your mobile to do that?

Don’t want to be informed.

Do you just want the thing not to work with no information as to why?

Yes. Couldn’t you sort that out?

OP is SOL without a jail break.

On my phone I can see in the status bar that there is no data. I often switch off data so I am used to just glance at the status bar for... status

The service in my area is down. So every time I step out of wifi range this keeps popping up asking me to turn it on. This happens at a very annoying frequency when I’m just near the edge of the wifi range.
