Hi, so my iPhone X (10) recently complained about FaceID having issues, so I tried updating it. In the midst of updating it however it just shut off, and now it wont turn on. When I plug it into my macbook air it is at first not detected, but it is detected when I press the buttons to go into recovery mode. However the screen is still black.

Now it gives me two options on my Mac, to update the phone, or to reset it. I have tried doing the update two times now but it just fails it seems, and the mac loses connection to my phone and I have to go into recovery mode again. I first thought that maybe the update did work and its just the screen that isnt working, but it doesnt give off any vibrations/sound/etc no matter how many buttons and such I press so the update at the very least didn't fix anything.

I have my media backed up so I'm not too worried about that, I am however worried about my 2-factor authentication codes from Google Authenticator. Is there any way in the world to get access to these? Could I perhaps use my mac as a "screen" for the iphone, if it's just the screen that is having issues?

I appreciate any and all help A LOT

do you have your phone backed up on iCloud? idk for sure but whenever I reset my phone then restore from an iCloud backup, my 2FA in Google Auth is still there. If you have another device, try restoring an iCloud backup and see what happens.

Oh that definitely gives me hope. Do you pay for iCloud+? I don't, and it's been complaining about the memory being full. But I've had the authenticator on there since day one like 4 years ago

I have the 50GB right now but I didn’t fully used the free 5GB before until I utilized iCloud photos. Don’t reset your phone yet, try using another device.

Will do exactly that tomorrow with an old iPhone that I have at my parents. Thank you for the tip!

Make sure the cable you’re using to connect phone and Mac isn’t bad.
