How would anyone know what went wrong internally, and how would that help? This message is a clear indication of a hardware defect and the only way to fix it is via repair.
No-Awareness-1834 t1_jduh309 wrote
Sure, if you believe that, go right ahead and keep on believing.
GlitchParrot t1_jduh5sz wrote
Do you believe something else? And why?
No-Awareness-1834 t1_jduhi6v wrote
Software issues can cause a whole load of "hardware warnings". This guy says he has done nothing to his phone, when a random update does this it is absolutely not a hardware problem. Especially when it just happens randomly, after an update.
But of course, because it's Apple, there's nothing you can do to investigate or repair the software issue yourself. That does mean that this subreddit could basically be replaced by a flowchart with, at the end, "contact Apple"
GlitchParrot t1_jduhlkc wrote
And how is that the fault of this subreddit? And why would it be any different with, say, a Samsung phone? Their hard- and software is also closed source.
No-Awareness-1834 t1_jdui1xg wrote
Did I fault the subreddit? Why are you taking this personally?
It's different because Android is just more open, if you replace the camera you will not get some stupid warning that the part is unknown. Android is open-source, do you know what you're talking about?

Yes:

AOSP is open source. Samsung’s specific flavour of Android including their drivers and UI skin is closed source.

I’m not faulting anything. I’m stating a fact. This sub is useless for tech support.

Not even half as much as iOS.

I see. It kinda sucks because alot of the Apple Store geniuses aren’t exactly fitting of the title.

He said he got it last march, way past the return window. Even if he brings it back, how is he gonna prove to them that he didn’t get the camera fixed/replaced? I would actually suggest taking it to the Apple Store and see what the employee say

Obviously, but this has been a problem for others for years and has yet to be addressed in a proper way without having to go to the apple store. So definitely still relevant.
paulstelian97 t1_jduxzbi wrote
But that's the problem: such issues can be ironed out between the beta and the actual iOS release. IF they are reported via official channels (and Reddit is not one of them).
mupet0000 t1_jduw19w wrote
The honest answer is don’t use beta software if you’re looking for a stable experience. Report the bug in the feedback app and downgrade your iOS if you aren’t happy.
itsadile t1_jdwj6ke wrote
iOS 16.4 is not beta software. It’s full release today.

The camera works fine

There’s “working” and “working as expected”. Different things
DrSlapathot OP t1_jdue25z wrote
Working fine is working as expected i don’t see how that doesn’t correlate.
Pigeon_Chess t1_jdufxu8 wrote
It might look like it’s fine but tons of shit could be off. Have you tried all the functions on all of the lenses? Even then calibration could be off or you could be getting a rouge voltage somewhere
SalamanderJazzlike54 t1_jdung6q wrote

DrSlapathot OP t1_jdwkxau wrote

SalamanderJazzlike54 t1_jdxdpkw wrote
So working fine = working as expected = software bug?
DrSlapathot OP t1_jdxken1 wrote
The camera itself does yes, but the software is saying it might not be genuine, that’s not hard to figure out.

Happened to me too. Bought direct from apple. Took it in to them and they replaced camera and screen. No explanation about why it happened.
Schlebbert t1_jdw10kg wrote
I had this on my old 12 when moisture got inside. I’ve read this happening few times already in this sub. O guess your best shot is to visit an Apple Store, maybe they can help you.

Does the camera work? Then it is a genuine camera.
Candid-Party1613 t1_jdxbh9f wrote
It’s not genuine if you take it to an authorized repair center.
Perfectreign t1_jdxx3mg wrote
Is it not an Apple product? I’m confused.
Candid-Party1613 t1_jdy66n7 wrote
No, it’s not according to the software.
Perfectreign t1_je075kj wrote
Bizarre. It it fits on an Iphone then it is Apple.
Candid-Party1613 t1_je0a9gc wrote
Nope. Tons of aftermarket parts out there and that’s besides the point. I mean the software is all Apple looks at when it comes to this. You could buy new phones, swap the screens in their store and they’ll tell you your screen is now a fake.
