Hello, I exchanged my old iPhone 12 for an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Since I travel between Germany and the US, I need to use to e-sims.

AT&T said it would be fine, but unfortunately the phone is sim locked and I can’t add my German e-sim.

AT&T says that after 36 months they can unlock it or I have to pay 36x the monthly amount that they give me for my iPhone 12 which I don’t want to do.

Is there any other way to unlock it? Perhaps a legit third party way?

Thx in advance!

Looks like you should have purchased directly from Apple and not the carrier. It is up to att to unlock the device to accept other eSims.

A common misconception from carriers, they seem to think their lock only applies to one of the SIM slots on the phone, but they apply to both.

You have the choice of going through AT&T or there's the less expensive option of finding a shop / using eBay. Most of those will do it for about €10.
