I had the 13 mini and the battery was just ok i cilium’s barely make it though the day with light to medium use. If you have a MagSafe battery pack to go with it then you would be fine.

Not really enough info to make a recommendation either way. To me, it does sound like you're a heavy user. I'm not confident any base model phone would be enough for your needs without charging.

What about spending less money and getting one of those battery cases I'm assuming they make for the S21? B/c I really feel if you got the mini, you'd still end up needing one of those.

Mmmmm, let me say a little bit more then, although you are already making a point.

I do have a lot of screen on time, I was expecting to get at the very least 5 hours of SOT, or at least to not have to charge the phone through the day. I mostly spend my time in social media and Spotify, waze makes special appearances from time to time.

I rarely game and don't mind battery if that's the case.

If battery is your concern then a mini is the wrong choice no matter what.

True, I heard that from that from 12 series onward most phones are able to reach the end of the day without any issue, that's pretty much the only concern.

Screen brightness is THE biggest factor when it comes to battery life. But even keeping that down, I don’t think the mini is going to be a good fit for you. It wasn’t for me as even a bit of Pokemon Go was enough to put it at risk of needing a recharge when it wasn’t convenient.

14 plus battery is dope. I’m a heavy user but since I got this phone I can get away with not charging overnight, I’ll then run low in the late afternoon on the 2nd day

I had a a 12 Mini and the battery lasted all day with moderate use (music/social meadia for 30mins on the way to and from work, small social media breaks and texting during the day, some time surfing/speaker music/on the phone in the evening) - I was left with maybe 20-30% at the end of the day. From what I heard the 13 Mini is even better.

Mini 13 user here. For old iphones I always struggled if I forgot to charge overnight or forgot to plug in charger while driving. Since usb c fast chargers are invented I dont think about charging like it might ruin my day. If i need to use my phone a lot i just charge ir for about 20minutes extra with fast charger and boom, its charged more than enough again. It is not hard. I have 86% battery life left since october 2021. I have QI charger as well, but its very slow and i dont use it therefore

i had battery issues with my 13 mini. it just wouldn’t last all day no matter my useage. and my battery health was 89% in less than a year??? I just upgraded to Iphone 14 Pro and it’s phenomenal. the battery lasts all day and into the next morning. i LOVED my mini but her battery sucked.👎🏼

I tryed to charge my previous iphone as little times as possible, changed several batteries myself in short time. Now I decided to went full on with fast charging and without thinking about battery life, thats it.

iPhone 13 regular will be enough. My 1.5 year old iPhone 13 with 89 percent battery health won’t drop below 40 percent by 5 pm 💀 it constantly surprises me with its amazing battery.

I’m a 13 mini user. The battery is ok. Not horse shit like old iPhones. Not awesome like the 13/14 pro max. It’s ok. I use my phone for couple hours and I have a MagSafe stand right on my desk, so I’m always charging it.

But boy, let me tell you when I travel my feelings get mixed. It’s super fast to charge it. It’s a huge bonus. But if I rely on my phone to be my main computer for a day, it kinda let you down - so have a power bank around.

The size is perfect for me. My last phone was iPhone 11. The only thing I really miss is the battery.

I will hold my 13 mini for more years to come. But my next phone will be a 17 pro, or whatever it is in the time. I’ll trade the size for the battery.

Don't listen to the haters about Mini battery life. It'll get me through an entire day and a half, sometimes 2 whole days. Moderate/light use, plenty of fb.

13 mini battery life is twice as good as SE3 and as good as the regular 12 and that got rave reviews. It's only "bad" relative to newer larger phones.

Even a 12 mini blows the best android out of the water in terms of real-use battery life.

Epancho16 OP t1_jd9cjgn wrote

But like, you charge it through the day or something?

I don't think they are necessarily haters, chemistry in a battery can change heavily with slight changes like the weather where the phone tends to be.

1

PsyOmega t1_jd9f6uv wrote

I charge it when I go to bed every night or every other night (sometimes on day 2 it'll need plugged in by evening). When it's nightly the battery is usually at 30-40% left from being unplugged at 100% in the morning before work.

Average SOT according to settings is 5 hours between charges (so 70% drain to 5 hours of screen time)

ElaienyKg t1_jd9vlw7 wrote

lmao no (from 13 mini user). I’m thinking of switching to a bigger phone because 13 mini’s battery life sucks real hard. I can drain the battery life with like 4hrs of screen time according to screen time in settings, which is ridiculous to me. When I was traveling (so I had to constantly look at maps and stuff) a couple days ago it literally shuts off at 3/4pm everyday cuz of drained battery.

2

Frantik508 t1_jd9vy2g wrote

After a quick YouTube search for battery drain tests, I found that the 13 Mini generally lasts 6.5 hours with nonstop use. The S21 generally lasts 7 hours with nonstop use. Your S21 has better battery life. You'd better off just getting a 13, or 14, both of which will last much longer than the S21, basically twice as long.

It might be a little more money, but the phone itself will last for several years without slowing down, so you won't need to upgrade as fast as you would with a Samsung. Samsungs are great, but their lifespan is much shorter than iPhone.

2

madsafe t1_jda0272 wrote

If you're concerned about the battery life, are considering switching to iPhone, and can move the budget slightly up, iPhone 14 Plus would be the best pick. You might also get a good deal considering Apple didn't sell as many iPhone 14 Pluses as they expected. Telling by real-life experience, iPhone 14 Plus lasts about twice as much as iPhone 13 Mini.

1

WhittleDood t1_jda8slp wrote

Definitely not the mini if you want battery life. It'll be fine for the first couple weeks but after that it'll go to shit. I have a 12 mini and I'm at 20% by 3pm while being in low power mode and not using 5g and many other battery saving measures lmao

1

dirted22 t1_jdadrzz wrote

Most iPhone reviews state that battery life is the platform's weakness, not its strength...

Here's an alternative way to look at it: I have a comparable sized phone and battery in the SE 2022, and I'm a light enough user that I only charge it 2-3x a week when it drops to 50-60%. I have a shortcut to notify me when it reaches 80% (for ideal battery health), so it's usually only on the charger for ~20 minutes at a time.

So, even though a Mini isn't great for battery life, it's also a small enough battery that quick charges throughout the day will top it off with minimal downtime.

2

SilkSteel7 t1_jdadzlu wrote

I'd recommend just getting the regular 13. It's not that big to be honest and you won't find an issue coming from an s21

2

Ok-Calligrapher1345 t1_jdaovv7 wrote

That’s 8 hours. If you’re using your phone for like 6 hours of instagram during that time then the battery is probably gonna be dead.

Just get a portable battery if you’re going to use your phone that much.

1

proto-x-lol t1_jdapw7w wrote

It ultimately comes down to one thing.

What do you factor more? The battery life or the form factor?

If you like the compact size, go for the iPhone 13 Mini.

If you value the battery life, go for the iPhone 13 (6.1 inch).

Also all iPhones from the iPhone X and onwards support up to 18-22 watt fast charging. So you can charge your phone really quick if you’re running low on battery. Keep that in mind.

LancelotDuLac99 t1_jdaugst wrote

I’ve come from an S21 myself but I went ahead with the 13PM. But I’d say the regular 13 should do much better than the 13 mini for you.
