Depends on the model, and depends on how much you value hassle free repairs. Depends on how willing you are to carry around a busted phone to save a few bucks. Also depend on how much you trust your case.

If you break the back glass of your iPhone 14 Pro you are absolutely fucked and cannot get it fixed for less than $500.....but replacing the back glass on an iPhone 14 is only $169. Replacing the front glass on the basic iPhone 14 is $279, but on the 14 Pro Max it is $379. If you go with the case, you had better damn well trust that it will protect both the front and back without fail.

If you have AppleCare+, repairing the front or back glass on any model is only $29 per incident.

I asbsolutely love going without a case, so I just pay the $100-120/year and call it a day. When you get the back glass replaced they pretty much give you an entirely new phone, so I've gotten two replacements for a relatively small deductible. I never have to worry about dropping or mishandling the phone.

The only thing I can say for certain is not to pay for carrier-provided insurance (unless it includes AppleCare+). Deductibles are expensive, and they will not repair or replace with the same speed as an Apple Store.

I guess you also ought to consider how close you are to an Apple Store (or Apple-approved repair centers like Best Buy). You will have to take your phone to these locations for repairs (or mail it off if there aren't any near year).

Thank you. I have a few Apple stores in the area, maybe 30 minutes drive to get there. Think that I will therefore probably use, also because I have two children at home, where even a case does not bring the most protection. And because I dont have 500 bucks for things like that actually.

One of them potentially prevents your phone from getting damaged and saves you the time & trouble of getting it repaired.

The other keeps your out of pocket cost lower if you do need a repair since you have pre-paid part of the repair cost in premiums and will now only have to pay a deductible. It doesn’t do anything to help prevent damage though.

They are different products made to do different things. I don’t use either. I would choose AppleCare if I had to pick one because I can’t stand having a case on my phone.

Get it now …otherwise in a year from your purchase something screws up or ya damage it somehow and you’ll wonder why you didn’t get AppleCare+

I have it and have had it on all my phones and have never used it. But it’s great to have.

I've had my iPhone 8 for at least 2 years w/o a case. It works "just fine".

I have AppleCare. Used it once. The battery was swelling. Don't recall it costing a thing.

I wouldn't use a case. Others might.

I value my time, even though I have AppleCare, I don’t want to deal with getting a new fucking phone and all the shenanigans that entails, just use a case, and give it no more mind
