if it's a dedicated enough thief, there's computer programs they can run which "force" it's way into the phone, basically trying all possible combinations as fast as possible. once into the phone, it's easy for them to access your apps and saved passwords

That video is very informative and quite scary! Thankfully they didn’t change my Apple ID or password. I’ll certainly be deleting the passwords from my keychain too after watching that. Thanks for posting.

They definitely didn’t see me enter it, the guy befriended me then stole it from my pocket whilst hugging me. I hadn’t used the phone prior to this interaction. I will be more careful with entering my passcode in public though.

Looked over your shoulder. Humans can usually easily remember 5 digits when seeing someone type. That is why Apple now suggests 6 by default.

Why is nobody talking about the fact that someone actually googled how many combinations there are for a 4 digit PIN

Did you have fingerprint smudges over the numbers? That reduces it to 24 permutations from 9999. You're allowed ten guesses I think so the thief has a nearly 50% chance of getting your pin right.

Sorry, I thought the answer was obvious and I was just being a smart ass. I’m sorry this happened to you. There is a setting that will delete you info after like 10 incorrect attempts in a given time period. Or make it a 6 digit code instead of 4

Id go six digit and maybe even alphanumeric. But also I’m very careful so people don’t see my PIN code Input

I am always surprised at non mixed alphanumeric passcodes

I was thinking the same thing.

But I guess everyone has things they are good at I can look at that number and not even think twice about it and know it is 10k while I need spell check to spell their most times. I always put ie

Aren't brute force tricks don't quite work nowadays since phones and other security measures don't allow multiple incorrect password in a short amount of time? How many incorrect tries do we get before the phone counts down before you can enter a pin again?
