Nope. I have the gmail app for the notifications only. No badges or anything, just banners.

The Mail app does not do push notifications for Gmail. The best you can do is have it check in 15 minutes intervals. You can use a third party app instead if you need push.

I've never tried Spark before. How do you like it? I use the native iOS mail app and have used the Gmail app, too.

hard to explain why but it just has everything i like. extremely easy to use, actually fetches mail as it comes in, super clean interface. i’ll never use any other mail app.

No, installing gmail was one of the first things I did when I switched over from android. I need to get email notifications immediately.

Actually you can do something about it. I am not using iPhone anymore so I cannot provide exact steps.

You should check your settings> mail you should see the Gmail address here tap it and look for more options or advanced options you can change features that works.

Or settings> accounts or something like this then tap Gmail account and you should see mail app and the steps are same.

Sorry for half missing steps, I can't remember well but you can change by the steps that mail app checks for the specific account if there are new mails. I always set it every hour (there should be more frequent options) and it worked for me I got my Gmail notifications every hour.

They removed push for gmail several iOS versions back.

Before iOS 13, the default option Fetch automatically works fine. I can get notification from mail and Gmail at same time. Since iOS 13, it only works when you are charging your iPhone. So you have to use Gmail for notification.

IIRC, Google disabled push notifications for regular mail years ago. Now, you have to use their app to get push notifications, or you have to pay for a business gmail account.

Google switched to a different push protocol. They didn’t switch it off. It’s up to Apple if they want to support Gmail push in their email app. Other Email apps like Outlook support push for Gmail.
