The normal iPhone 13 is great.

The difference with the 13 pro is really small and compared to the 14 there's almost no difference.

Depends on what you want. For best camera and newer features go with the 14 Pro or Pro max. I’m assuming money is no issue being you already overpay for your laptop so an extra couple hundred over previous year phone is easily affordable. If so, definitely worth it.

I don't really want to overpay for the 14, when it's basically just the 13 (or some other unit) with very minor changes. Tbh, to my untrained eye, the 11 pro or pro max still looks great, though maybe it's considered slow in 2022?

For laptops, it's much easier for me to navigate for upgrades. As long as the RAM and SSD are higher than what I'm upgrading from, then I'm in the clear.

U can manage the 12 too it's really similar to the 13 and not far from the pro variant but my worry would be the battery and software support on the 11 pro as it's getting older and older

12 has significantly reduced battery life. If you’re coming from an android having > 4000 mah, you’ll be highly disappointed. 13 is good enough.

I just checked, on my mid-level Android, I'm at 3340 mAh (which lasts me a full day with average data use). Will definetely watch out for this! Thanks :)

The 11 series aren’t slow in 2022, they’re still fast for everyday usage but imo the 13 is the best bang for your buck

Get a 12 pro or pro max for good price, go get the battery replaced, you’re golden. Has so many of the same features as the top phones at fraction of the cost

The regular 12 is perfectly fine and almost identical to the 13 and 14

What kinds of things do you want to do with the iPhone? For example, are you taking a lot of pictures? Just email/text/productivity? Gaming?

And do you have a particular budget in mind?

For the longest time (due to the pandemic lockdowns and WFH setups), I barely reach for my phone.

Mobility and high-speed data connectivity concerns weren't apparent, until now, when we're quickly moving back to exclusively face-to-face operations.

It's embarrassing to admit now, but when I posted the question here, I was only thinking about photos/videos and social media hahaha

I do all my work on the Mac, and I sometimes consume media on the iPad. Alhough, being productive on my commute sounds appealing.

For very superstitious reasons, I'm leaning towards the 12 more than the 13 hahahaha that's a ME problem though 😅

Yeah, it appears that the price for the 11 hasn't really dropped too much...I feel like it should have been much lower by now.

So if social media and photo/videos are your primary mobile device activities, I'd recommend the 13 pro or 13 pro max (the latter only if you want the larger screen). The 13 pro is a great value right now if you're paying out of pocket. For a bit more money you could get the 14 pro (look at carrier deals because those can be good) and that will future proof you for a bit longer.

The downside of the 14 lineup (if purchasing in the U.S.) is that there is no SIM tray (all eSIM), which might be a concern if you do a lot of international traveling and like cheap data plans with SIM cards. But the 14 has some nice features like crash detection and satellite phone capabilities (coming soon). The 14 definitely has a brighter screen though that is much easier to see outdoors (it was the first thing I noticed going from the 13 pro max to 14 pro max).

If you do a lot of hiking or frequently find yourself away from areas with cell reception or spend a lot of time looking at your phone outdoors, those are good reasons to justify one of the 14 series phones. But if you're looking to save a few dollars and don't care about those features, definitely look at the 13 pro.

Get the best you can afford. If you plan to keep it for years like you say, you wouldn’t want to go too far back in generations. iPhones are a pretty safe bet since you can really get 5+ years out of them if you really want to.

I went from an XS Max to a 14pro. If I really wanted to I could have continued to use the XS max for at least another year if I got a battery replacement. That phone came out in 2018 and is still supported

Besides the telephoto camera what other useful features does it actually have? (Over something like an iPhone 13)

well it's a couple of years old by now so a new battery will refresh it back to brand new condition (assuming you get a good quality used which looks cosmetically good and has no problems). This would be the best value purchase IMHO - to be honest my old iphone XR at health 82% was still usable, just had to charge it more frequently.
