To an extent yes. 3rd party outside of I believe belkin are limited to 7.5 watt. The Apple MagSafe can do 15w but can also intelligently adjust wattage like when using lightning.

That said MagSafe get hot also. That’s the nature of wireless charging.

I have an Apple MagSafe and have had that message a few times charging my 14 Pro Max. Never once had it with my 12 Pro Max though.

MagSafe aligns with magnets so the coils can’t be misaligned. MagSafe is way better than traditional wireless charging.

Have had it with 13 pro also

This might be down to the case you're using retaining more heat than the phone by itself does .

Turn somethings wrong with your phone, it shouldn't be overheating

yeah it unfortunate it seemed like with IOS 16 its been happening more , it could be my imagination but I don't recall ever seeing that message before IOS 16 , but I could be imagining things.

The issue I have with wired connection is how all lightning cables I have bough seem to be even anker ones sometimes have fraying issues , but takes longer than apple ones. Apple ones are notoriously pretty fragile. Even the lightning cable I use for just charging my ipad the plastic casing is starting to crack. I believe I am pulling the cables out properly by the plastic casing not by the cable but it still is happening.

I’ve gotten that message with my 14 Pro (with Apple leather MagSafe case) when using lightning cable, but I have not seen that message when using Apple MagSafe charger. I use either 20W charger (Apple or Anker) or Apple 35W dual compact charger.

I’ve had this happen with an iPhone 12,13 and now 14. Pretty certain this is ‘normal’, just not ideal.

I used an open box Mag Safe, with an Ultranet 30W adapter on my 13 PM. Oddly enough, you can barely feel any warmth at all, and this is with a cheap $8 case from Amazon.

It was an extra safety feature added with iOS 15. Basically, your iPhone monitors battery temperature, charging coil temperature, and ambient temperature inside the iPhone. When one or more of them reach a certain temperature when charging, iOS pauses charging cycle to allow everything to cool down.

If your iPhone is busy doing something like restoring from backup or installing an iOS update (for example), your iPhone would get quite warm and that could cause the overheating while charging message.

Using non-certified chargers could also cause overheating as they are notorious for overcharging iOS and Android devices.

It's not supposed to overheat to the point of flash a warning notification . Qi charging is supposed to produce some heat but not to this level

The message was introduced with iOS 16.

Same happens with my iPhone 14 pro, I use the anker622 MagSafe battery pack and a few times it’s told me it’s stopped charging due to the temp of phone. I use the clear spigen case with my phone but funnily enough on my belkin 3in1 charger, I’ve never ever had that message come up and my phone is on there pretty much all day.

I’d be more concerned about your Qi charger; I don’t get that message using Qi or MagSafe chargers
