GoodNotes 5. Awesome app for taking notes and it auto saves into you’re favorite cloud service. If anyone has experience with any other note taking apps that work similarly let me know.

I use notability. Also auto backups to iCloud or one drive or wherever

I use GoodNotes for college and it’s great. There are some downsides but it’s pretty good.

Isn’t it infinitely faster to type in notes on a keyboard, though?

Sure but I don’t always have a desk to sit at for using a keyboard. Also, you can upload a pdf into GoodNotes and write on it where a keyboard isn’t useful there. I am an engineer so I am always redlining drawings or reports or making sketches or just making extra comments to clear things up as parts get built. My drawings get uploaded in real time and my team gets them instantly. For personal notes, I make a lot of sketches so being able to draw with the Apple Pencil is great.

How is it better than Apple notes?

You can sketch and draw over any pdf you upload into it. If you’re a student you can upload a book or a professors slides and take notes over it with an Apple Pencil. I upload drawings or reports and redline them using my iPad and I get the notes back at my desk instantly or I can share them to my team using any cloud service. I’ve only used the basic apple notes app for quick notes here and there where I just need to type.

When you sketch on a PDF, does it flatten automatically when you open on the computer? Looking for something for the iPad that doesn’t so I can edit the markups later when I bring it to my PC.

I know Notablilty doesn’t but Bluebeam does, though their app is super clunky to use

Unfortunately it does So yeah it is hard to edit the comments later in without an ipad/iPhone.

I prefer Notability. Being able to record while taking notes is a huge feature for me.

I haven’t used that one but I’ll check it out. Although I wouldn’t use recording very much.

I'm a student so I use the recording function to record lectures. It's a legitimately useful feature for me.
