Very similar experience!! I came from the Pixel 2 XL & 3XL, used an iPhone 7 for a month when I gave away the 3XL; I decided to get the 12 Pro Max for the “bigger” iOS experience. It was great and sold me on the ecosystem, but after 2 years it ended up somewhat of a chore to use one handed and cumbersome in terms of size. The 14 Pro non-Max has been wonderful in those aspects, while retaining almost the full experience the 12 Pro Max provided.

Would you mind commenting on if the 14 Pro is really an update over the 12 pro. I currently have the 12 pro max and I can't really decide if it really is much of an upgrade.
gregishere t1_iui8har wrote
I made the same upgrade last week. I very much prefer the smaller size. My hand was starting to hurt from holding the 12 pro max. The one thing that I think was a downgrade is the battery life. I’m not sure if that’s an iOS 16 problem or just the change from dropping sizes and losing the bigger battery of the pro max.

I’ll keep that in mind for when I get it. Ordered it through my carrier so that’s going to take some time.

If you can’t get used to the size then that’s why we have options. Even for a guy with small hands I quickly got used to the size/weight of the Pro Max and now I could never go back with how nice the screen is and battery life.

The Max sizes always looked comical to me. Here’s this beautiful piece of tech and then you super size it.

Just went from a 12 pro max to a 14 pro and I am so glad I made the downsize

Exact same for me - no regrets!

I agree with you which is why I went with the 13 Pro when the 13 line first came out.
I went to the Apple store to try all the sizes and test the weights. The pro is the perfect size and weight for me and my hands. The pro max is WAY too big and heavy. Plus the money I would have spent on a pro max was put into paying for a higher storage capacity 13 pro.

I agree with everything you said. I also upgraded to the 14 Pro coming from a 13 Pro Max. Sometimes I really miss the big display and longer battery life but it’s worth the trade off to have a more comfortable size. Right now with iOS 16.1 I get around 9 hours and 30 minutes of screen on time which is more than enough for me.

I understand why you made the downsize move, and I wouldn’t fault anyone for it. Heck, I did the same thing, but after 2-weeks, I decided I couldn’t jive with the smaller screen and much-worse battery life. I lucked out and found a 14 PM locally to reserve, allowing me to return my launch 14 Pro within the return window. I would’ve continually regretted the downsize move if I had stuck with the smaller Pro.

I also went with the pro but my reason wasn’t the same as yours — I did it because pro was the only phone available at that time, I was impatient and impulsive, didn’t want to wait ~2 months and thought of just buying it (tbh my old phone was nearly 4 years old and dying so I didn’t have much of a choice). And couldn’t be happier with my choice. This feels too heavy and a kinda big, so I can only imagine how the max would feel in my hand.
The battery thing doesn’t bother me as much because when I’m out, I rarely get the time to use my mobile that much, so the charge never goes down to zero. Moreover, most places have chargers and ports to charge it. If I’m going on a vacation or something where I’ll be using my phone for longer time, I’d take a power bank or something. And I know how to efficiently use my phone — once charge goes below 30%, I’d put it in power mode.
The only thing better in max is the screen size. But aside from the wow factor, the extra screen doesn’t add up to anything. It’s not bigger by a large margin (area wise, it doesn’t increase that much). Things are still pretty small and crowded — it’s not like you are getting an iPad’s or foldable’s screen size. You can’t do split screen tasks. So the amount of problem it poses (heavier, bulkier, can’t use one-handed) doesn’t justify the bigger form factor imo.

I went from a 13 Pro Max to a 14 Pro! The size is incredible. I absolutely love it and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the Max.

Also moved to a 14 Pro from a Max. Zero regrets so far.

I’m actually the opposite, upgraded from an 11 Pro to a 13 Pro Max a couple months back, and the extra screen space and the bigger size instantly felt so much nicer and better to use. The bigger screen felt more immersive for me as well, and the 120Hz is a nice addition as well.
Lewdeology t1_iuf61no wrote
I felt the same but then I tried out Apple’s leather case and it was much more manageable. Any other typical case just makes it way too big.
Muffstic t1_iuf8d9n wrote
I also dropped phone sizes from the Pixel 6 XL Pro to iPhone 14 Pro because I’m sick of HUGE phones.
tmih93 t1_iuhaiab wrote
I'm the opposite, I'd go bigger if I could; I'm on 13 Pro Max too. I guess my next one is going to be either 17 Ultra or 17 Pro Max Fold.

did the opposite, had an 11 pro and went to 14 pro, felt nice but not that much of an upgrade so i exchanged it for a pro max and I'm never going back. prefer it a lot more and its not as bulky as i imagiend

the 14 pro is much heavier than my old XS. I'm glad I didn't go with the max, my fingers hurt and have tried at least 10 different cases.

Thank you! I have been thinking the same. I love the 13 PM, but size, ehh, it is really problematic. I might give your recommendation a try. Thank you again!

Ordered a 14 Pro yesterday for the same reason. I am currently on a 12 Pro Max and while it’s an amazing phone, the size is tiring. Wanted to give the big one a try, but it turned out to be too much :/
