I can see your points, outside of USB-C. I still don’t get the loud screams for this. I have near zero other devices that use USB-C. In fact, all of my other Apple devices still use Lightning. I’d actually be annoyed if this phone had USB-C, as I’d have to go out and purchase different cables for it, which is the opposite of what I hear claimed so many times elsewhere.

It isn’t that usb-c is a necessity. Hardly in fact but knowing that the EU is forcing the hand to go USB-C that apples eco system is currently a mix of both cable standards which is a sign that it’s coming. Why not just adopt it now? The other core advantage of usb-C is transferring huge files and video for editing purposes which I do a decent amount of. While lightning is fast that usb-C would truly help speed up things even faster. Not a deal breaker per se for most people but video editors or raw file users might care for this. I have a gazillion different cables at home so usb-c or lightning is well moot for me as far as deal breaker decisions are concerned. I can use either interface.

I assume for people exactly like myself, like I just described.

Apple promised 10 years out of Lightning, and this is year number 10.

Yeah totally. It’s a nice (and at times bad) to have. Just a natural progression of the iPhone. I have tons of lightning devices so in the typical apple fashion, cash in on the apple cable taxes and then make the switcheroo.
