That’s beautiful to see.

While I personally prefer lightning to usb c, if iPhones get a usb c port, I would love to be able to plug hard drives and accessories directly into the phone.

USB mechanical hard drives draws too much power. SSD drives does not so I guess it will be okay to directly connect an SSD with USB-C plug directly to a phone, android or iPhone.

A powered hub or dock is ideal.

No mechanical hard drives do not draw to much power. I can easily plug in HDDs into my iPad Pro 2018 and it works flawlessly. And I do not need a separate power source.

The iPad Pro has bigger battery which is probably why it works flawlessly. But how about the drain in battery life?

Try it in in devices with smaller battery like phones, and update us with the result.

I don‘t own an android smartphone with USB C. But the iPhone 15 Pro is rumored to get USB C. If it really gets the port then I will definitely try it out. That would be a killer feature for me.

I tried a direct connection to OnePlus android phone with USB-C and the mechanical hard just made a clicking sound. Low power I suppose. But SSD is fine.
