Use Maps and guide yourself to the nearest Apple Store.

What’ll be the financial part of it and if you might know, how much time does the Apple Store take?

I’m sorry but apple has a whole website detailing all of this. Google is free.

I think with Apple Care they charge $30.

Coeruleus_ t1_iybae72 wrote

Lol the exact same thing just happened to me on Friday. I dropped it and back glass shattered just like that.

I had apple care +. I went onto Apple support app and picked my problem. They gave me the option of going to Apple Store for glass replacement for $29 or getting a whole new phone for $99. I picked new phone. They immediately shipped it and I got the new replacement on Monday morning.

I can’t recommend paying for Apple Care enough. It’s so damn good

I went with replacement option for more money because the last time I broke my screen and took it to Apple store , it took over 2 hours to replace and I didn’t like the job they did. You could tell it was replaced and wasn’t very water tight ( I could see bubbles sometimes if screen got wet). I’d rather just have the new phone

P3nguLGOG t1_iybbraa wrote

Did you get to keep the broken one too?

1

Coeruleus_ t1_iybc4a7 wrote

Ha no…. They put a hold on your credit card for the full price of the new phone. They give you 10 days to return the broken one. Once they get it they release the charge. If they don’t get it back they charge you for the full price of the new phone

3

P3nguLGOG t1_iybcgio wrote

Damn, what if you don’t have the credit limit for that? I guess you’d have to mail it in or drop it off before they ship the replacement?

Coeruleus_ t1_iybdlcn wrote

I don’t know maybe I’m wrong. I thought they said they were going to put a hold on my card, but I’m looking at my credit card app now and I don’t see it. I only see the $99 dollar charge for using the replacement service. But I know if you don’t return it in 10 days they charge you the full price.

I don’t think what you said would work anyway. They send the replacement in a special looking box with a convenient peel away return label and tape, and all kinds of barcodes. I think you really need that box/labels for the process to work out. They also shipped it like 2 hours after I put the request in and it got here in 3 days.

jimshaderzc001 t1_iybit31 wrote

They do put a hold for the full value of your phone but it goes away after you mail it back

I wish it’s the same process in Europe

OkSwim6678 t1_iybbtny wrote

Lol ya I can’t imagine it’s too much different…

Far as I know some countries don’t even have applecare. For example Romania🤷🏻‍♀️ you’d have to change your country to another one, but then sending it to an apple store is going to be hard(considering there is no apple store in the country, like at all). Going to an IStyle, the romanian version of your local applestore(just a reseller, but they do everything an apple store would), is a hit or miss. It is a little different I guess, depending where OP is from🧍🏼

2

Desperate_Drive8891 t1_iycp58d wrote

Well there is no AppleCare in Czech Republic for example. So it is definitely not the same process.

Potter3117 t1_iybakxq wrote

Since you purchased Apple care before the phone was broken, you can install the Apple support app and it will walk you through placing a claim and cost of repairs.

8

Rikk001 t1_iyb9h6v wrote

Did you have a case on it? If you don’t have an Apple Store near you, you have to mail it in. Download the “Support” app and chat with them. If you do have one, make a Genius Bar appointment

[deleted] OP t1_iyb9mf0 wrote

I do have one nearby. Had a case on it but I got slip on snow while I was on my 🚲

roomsocks t1_iybquqk wrote

Which case? So I can be sure not to buy it 😬 Sorry about your busted phone. That’s a bummer.

4

ProfessionalPeach661 t1_iyby3zt wrote

his lying lmao he didn’t have a case

1

1moderngoddess7 t1_iyce3cd wrote

Man I don’t think so. Case or not, slipping on snow on a bike is going to do that to a phone. Especially if it’s in your pocket and fall on it.🤷🏻‍♀️

Hopittyhop t1_iybzh45 wrote

Let me know if they fix ur phone or replace the whole thing. Did you ding or scrape up the sides at all?

I sometimes wonder how people manage to walk in this world with the kinds of questions that I see on these subs.

The correct answer to 90% of the questions here is: Go to the Apple Store and ask them.

[deleted] OP t1_iyctr1s wrote

Fortunately, I manage to walk with my legs.

almostnobody_9 t1_iybajp0 wrote

You make an appointment at the local store, go there and they assess your device to see what they need to replace and make sure your software and hardware is genuine, if everything is good there you leave it with them and they give you a ticket with a return time. You pay the fee and take your repaired device. Usually only takes an hour or so. Same day service anyway.

It’ll cost some serious dough tho if you don’t have the insurance. This is for back glass damage with and without insurance

Coeruleus_ t1_iybfixj wrote

But you should really always have apple care insurance. It’s worth it and it will pay off eventually. You never know what life will bring you. Ive used it for cracked screens twice , stolen once , water damage from flipping a jet ski, and green line of death once from some random knocking it off a table.

1

[deleted] OP t1_iybfxwo wrote

I did realise how important it is just after I saw the crack. This time I got to get away and I’m grateful for that. The conversation would be great if there were more details shared but I guess that’s it.

aspenextreme03 t1_iyb99lf wrote

So you bought apple care after breaking your phone??

1

[deleted] OP t1_iyb9bng wrote

Yes

−6

Stoll t1_iybbdfd wrote

Don’t tell Apple that it happened before you bought AppleCare.

6

[deleted] OP t1_iybbism wrote

Yes I will take care of that. I imagined that it was okay because I “really had an option”

2

OkSwim6678 t1_iybc2jq wrote

Jusy wait a few days before sending it… give it a few weeks before you claim apple care… just to be safe

Thank you. I’ll wait about a week then.

Doing that and using it to make the claim is insurance fraud, people do that but if they're caught it is illegal.

5

[deleted] OP t1_iybasjp wrote

Come on

I already paid more than it’s worth. But I’ll take care about mentioning it. Thanks 😎

xeu100 t1_iybaw8y wrote

Insurance fraud is insurance fraud, it's not something Apple determines but federal law does (and many other countries' laws)

3

WordPeas t1_iybajt8 wrote

That isn’t fair to the people who buy apple care+ legitimately before they have damage.

You are causing the price to go up for everyone because you are buying insurance as a discount to buy after-the-fact. You are supposed to buy it before anything is wrong, and only use the Apple Care if something happens after that point.

−3

[deleted] OP t1_iybb9ie wrote

So sorry I made people aware that life’s not fair.

0

WordPeas t1_iybdcv3 wrote

Life is pretty fair, in this instance. Because you bought AppleCare+ pointlessly. You were hoping for an unqualified repair.

The AppleCare+ terms state that it does NOT cover:

h) To repair pre-existing conditions of the Covered Equipment if you purchased the Plan after you purchased the Covered Equipment;

So no coverage — unless you choose to lie.

1

[deleted] OP t1_iybdm9t wrote

I’m sorry if it hurts your ethics. But I really don’t have that much amount to spent. So I will lie.

4

Coeruleus_ t1_iybgkwq wrote

I’m assuming he’s still in that window where he still has the option to buy coverage since it’s a new phone or else he wouldn’t of had the option to get coverage

Like don’t they give you 3 months or something? I just got a desktop and it says I have X more days until I can no longer get Apple Care coverage for jt.

I’m not saying it’s ethical….but I think I’d let him slide for this one.

4

ekiledjian t1_iybfzzn wrote

Use the Apple support app to initiate a support call.

Ask them for an express exchange. They will put a hold on your credit card for the full amount of a new iPhone, Mail you a phone, you box up yours and mail It back.

As soon as they receive it, they will refund the hold amount.

The back glass replacement on an iPhone 14 pro max in Canada is $719 (without apple care +) or $39 (with apple care +)

Hi, I don't want to poo poo this whole insurance claim, but I believe Apple can determine when the phone was damaged. I believe that the iPhone logs a hard impact. I may be wrong, but this could have a detrimental effect on your claim. I mean, the worse they'll say is 'no we can't replace your phone as you took out Apple care after it was damaged'.
