Have a OnePlus 6, that's starting to head out. Really considering going all out on a 14 pro max.
Use to be android fan boy, but now I just want a new phone.
People who made the jump, how is it?
Also, how do iPhones hold up after 3 years in terms of speed? I keep my phones until I have too switch. So hope to have the new one for 4 years. With androids they start freezing and hanging, is this universal or iOS different?

S10 to 14 pro max here, iphone is superior at almost everything in my opinion, I don’t really care about costumization, cameras are better, battery is the best, everything works better, apps and apps design work better, everything is smoother, it is a more enjoyable experience, I will never fully go back to android again, maybe I will use some fold or flip as a second phone because they are unique.
I myself just jumped from OnePlus 5T to 14 Pro Max and I love it. I was big Android fanboy and said that I will never get an Apple phone but times has changed. 0 regerts I love this phone. The only thing it's really annoying for me is the photos app. There is no specific folder for pictures taken with camera like the androids and everything goes to one place in the gallery. You have to go manually to create albums and move the pictures. Overall my expirence with the iPhone 11/10.

More than that, they’ve gone up to 6 years before with the iPhone 6s. It didn’t get iOS 16 this year, but it got iOS 15 last year and will continue to get security updates for as long as Apple wants to keep supporting it.
My iPad mini 2 (2013) stopped getting major iOS updates with iOS 12 (released 2018) and got regular security updates for years, and I even got a security update in August this year. Granted it was to fix a big vulnerability, but it’s almost 10 years old.
Even better, it's basically:
2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027
Based on Apple's track record, it'll be 5 years of updates.
And the updates come out right away when everyone else gets theirs, unlike with Android and different phones in different regions can wait many months longer than the lucky ones that get it first.
Android to iPhone here and so far I love it
We are on year 2 with our apple 12 pros and they hold up great! We loved google but their software issues and setbacks was annoying. The BS customer service was the last straw for us. I got mine out of anger after 12 years. First iPhone and I like it a lot more than I thought I would. We are not going back to android anytime soon. Apple has won me over.
Battery is awesome and the Apple Watch is just an unbeatable combo for me. I’d say take the leap and enjoy the ride. It’s not as bad as you think. Plus apps like iMessage is just amazing.

My first phone was an iPhone 4 and I then got an iPhone 6 Plus, 6s plus,7 plus, 7s plus. I made the jump from there to android and I likely got the galaxy S8 from there. From then it’s been a string of android phones with the latest ones being pixel 6 pro and S22 ultra. I recently got the iPhone 14 plus.
The difference I noticed instantly was battery life. Without power saver on, my s22 ultra would move from 100% in minutes. While I am typing this on my iPhone 5 minutes in of use and hasn’t moved from 100%.
Since I only got the plus I might not have gotten the best camera of them all. However I did take some great pictures of my dogs. While portrait mode uses depth of field, sometimes it blurs their noses. Could be much worse though.
The camera was significantly better than the pixel 6 pro.
My circumstances didn’t allow me to wait for the pro max. The plus is fine and something I wish I had in high school instead of the iPhone 4.

Overall my only problem is taking a screen shot when I want to lock my phone.
I jumped from Android to Apple when my kids did. So much smoother and faster. I can’t put my finger on just one thing… it’s just better. Now if I could get my hubby to switch…
I switched to iPhone after being an Android guy for over ten years.
The phones hold up much better than any Android phone. A 4-year old iPhone will run as good as it did when you bought it.
That said, I went back to Android after less than a year. iOS and iPhones are great, but we are creatures of habit. There are more things that I enjoy about Android more than iOS. My biggest gripe with iOS is Siri. I use virtual assistants a lot. Siri is the biggest piece of garbage, and it genuinely makes me mad that Apple can make everything so nice and premium, but can't get Siri to stop saying "on it..... still working on that..... something went wrong".
All in all, there are some things Apple does better, and some things Android does better. I don't care who copied who, as long as it works. Android works for me when it comes to phones, and iPads work for me when it comes to tablets.
You'll definitely enjoy an iPhone. But will you enjoy it enough to become a long-time user? You'll have to find out.
I did back around the 8 plus and I have 0 regrets. All around switching was just a higher quality experience to match the higher quality product. I’d routinely go through an android in less than 2 years and that’s if it was stellar, the battery always got shitty fast and the phone always slowed way down.
I had my 8 plus for years and never had an issue with it. I actually had the phone long enough that I upgraded out of sheer wanting to rather than having an actual need for it. The battery wasn’t as great after a few years but that’s expected and it still would last me a normal day.
Switched to iPhone permanently 3 yrs ago and the phones hold up super well. Went from a new 6s (they surprisingly had them new in 2019 still) to an SE 2020 and now on a 13 pro max. Did I need to upgrade that many times no, it was more of a sheer want for new features or in my current case the best battery life. Also software support is superb you’ll get updates for a while and the phone runs like it’s new even after a while. They only ever start to slow down if the battery’s total capacity drops significantly but that can be fixed with a new battery which is cheap.
There’s definitely a learning curve. I’ve had an XS Max for a little over a year now, after being an Android user for 10 years. My previous phone was a Pixel 4a 5G. I do miss it at times but I’ve become obsessed with the Apple ecosystem.

Samsung to iPhone a couple of months ago, all is good, just keyboard not so comfortable. And additional spends to accessories, you can't stop to buy tons of watch straps and phone cases😆 Also, it was funny to see last Samsung update. It looks like an imitation of iOS 16. But both systems are interested if it comes from one company with devices, probably will take pixel as second phone and wait for Microsoft reburn windows phone.
I made the switch back in February. There are a few differences that may or may not matter to you that I’ve never seen mentioned. (I went from S20 to iPhone 13)
I have multiple Gmail accounts. When adding contacts they all go to one account. In android you can pick which account you want each new contact tied to. Also there are no groups. I had groups for each of my kids friends parents but can’t do that anymore.
In android you can control/set different volume levels for the ringer vs notification vs audio. Apple everything is set at same volume.
In android you can have multiple payment methods set up in Google Play. For my kids (not so much for me), we had both my card and Dad’s card in there. Sometimes he’d buy stuff for kids, sometimes me. I have not figured out if/how you can do that on iPhone without removing and adding card each time. Also in android you can use or not use gift card balances but in iPhone you must.
Last thing is it takes awhile to get used to keyboard and not having numbers and or punctuation on same keyboard. You need to hit an extra key. Still struggling with that.
Overall all phones are the same and have pros/cons. But if anyone knows how to solve my “problems “ I’d appreciate feedback!
IMHO you should wait the iPhone 15 since it might have USB C (>90% chance IMHO) and the Pro version will also have better camera (>90% at least main, >50% to have significantly improved tele).
That's like 9+ months of waiting, don't think it's worth it at all.
Of course the next model will have improvements, that's sort of a given.
Seems like OP wants a new phone in the near future.
I hear about that. But Ik when that comes I'll debate waiting for the 16. So I've chosen to ignore whatever happens with the next phones. Also it's like a year away.
Good plan! There is always a “wait” argument. The iPhone 14 series is not to bad. I have it for my work phone. The difference between that and my 12 pro is not much. If you need a phone buy now! 👍🏼

I do miss a couple things (like the “back button” being on the left AND right of the phones edges and it working in every app and I miss YT Vanced) but all in all the iPhone is very smooth and works so well. My gf has an iPhone 12 which she bought around the time it came out, so a little over 2 years now, and it works like on the day she bought it. Something I never had with android phones, they always did work worse after every year of usage. So yeah, I am quite glad with the change.
