On the top-left of the screen does it say ‘Lists?’ If yes, tap on that and on the next screen tap on ‘On My iPhone’ if it is available.

Thank you. What I did was shut off the iCloud for contacts and then it now says iPhone. And then below that it says all iPhone with the number of contacts. If I click on that it will then show me all of the contacts. It shows of course my name and then says my card underneath that. Perhaps that's the way it should work. There is on the top left it says lists. If I click on that it just allows you to edit or add a list. It then says lists and under that iPhone with a down arrow and beneath that is like I mentioned before all iPhone with the number of contacts with a right arrow that you then click on and you see all of the contacts.

Okay, just so you know. When Contacts is configured that way it means the your contact list is available only on the iPhone. That is fine if you never have any other devices like an iPad or a computer like a Mac. If you have more devices and you want your contact list to be available on all of them then you will want to move your contacts on to a list that is available on iCloud.

That is the purpose of iCloud. It is there to synchronize information on one device to iCloud so all devices can access the same information.

Question what if there is no cell service and I need to look at a contact or some other iCloud stored piece of info, then what happens if not stored locally? I know this could be rare but I come from a Windows and Android and IT background where I have some things stored in the cloud, some in cloud for backup and some locally, some synced.

Thanks.

Contacts stored on iCloud are always also stored on device. In this scenario, like with most of iCloud’s services, iCloud acts as a synchronization service so that the data stored on one device is available on all devices.

That's cool. Thank you. I did however shut off contacts in the iCloud and then it says if I turn them on it will merge them and I don't want to have double contacts. I guess I could go into the iCloud and delete contacts and then turn it on. What do you think and by the way I appreciate your expertise. Thanks again

When you re-enable iCloud for the contacts it should recognize existing contacts and not duplicate them. If any data was added or removed while iCloud was disabled then a best effort will be made to merge the data.

Shortcut or widget for contact on iphone home screen?

Iphone 13, ios 16.2

Appreciate someone perhaps walking through these steps with their iphone, trying them and correcting them and verbiage, if you would be so very kind. SHORTCUT Direction FOR CONTACTS ON HOME SCREEN. But tricky to get working for me. I want to add 4 contacts. No pics but different icons and names of course. Install and open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. If not already on iPhone. Tap the Gallery action if you want in lower corner In search panel enter "Contact" and tap on "Contact on Home Screen Option" (tap 3 dots, might need to click on hamburger icons) Tap the set up shortcut option From my Shortcuts Tap on the “+” icon at the top. Give shortcut a name Tap a suggested contact. To call someone else type the tiny plus icon. Might need to select "Call" to call a contact. ????? If you clicked tiny plus icon, tap the faint blue "Contact" word and select a person from your address book. ????????? Give a name to your shortcut in the “Shortcut Name” field like "Ros". Tap Setting icon on top right OR is it the Share with arrow at bottom? Tap Add to Home screen Tap the tiny shortcut icon and pick a photo or something else, diffenet icon ??????? Tap Add again--it should be on the home screen Repeat to add another contact appreciate someone walking through and see if it works correctly and correcting what I wrote or gathered.

Secondly My second question is is there a way to have the shortcut not dial the person immediately or should I just use a widget instead? I want to avoid erroneous dialing by touching the screen contact by accident

Thank you very much and have a good New Year and I appreciate your time

Peter
