Apple has this sound recognition feature, I was watching a movie and mi phone told me It had detected dog barks and shouting, so removed the headphones and realized my sister was ringing the bell because she had locker herself out.

Thanks. I googled it. Would like to see this come to the HomePod.

Same features too!

Technically not all the same features but it will have the same sensors and the sound recognition feature.

5

hollowman2011 t1_j6ngnpv wrote

The only sound it will recognize are smoke/carbon monoxide detector alarms unfortunately.

2

BoysenberryTrue1360 t1_j6ofnpq wrote

I think your right. I was hoping for baby crying at the very least maybe door bell as well.

But yeah even Apple’s press release state:

“With Sound Recognition* HomePod can listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and send a notification directly to the user’s iPhone if a sound is identified.”

https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2023/01/apple-introduces-the-new-homepod-with-breakthrough-sound-and-intelligence/

  • Sound Recognition will be available in a software update later this spring. Sound Recognition may detect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sounds and send users notifications when recognized. Sound Recognition should not be relied upon in circumstances where users may be harmed or injured, or in high-risk or emergency situations. Sound Recognition requires the updated Home architecture, which will be available as a separate update in the Home app. It requires all Apple devices that access the home to be using the latest software.

Doesn't sound nearly as good though. I have 3 OG and 3 minis and the minis are okish. I would call the big ones good.

I bought one of these yesterday, primarily as a speaker for when I’m in the shower and want to listen to YouTube videos. Is there anything else I should use it for that’s actually useful and not some gimmick?

−2

Ubiquitous1984 t1_j6mru3r wrote

Haha I don’t! There is one just outside the bathroom (actually the en suite) so I can plug it in that socket and then put the device on the floor in the room (away from water!)

NinjaSnail42 t1_j6lxxvb wrote

No, you just need iOS 16. Press and hold the lock screen to customize and you can add a new one. It is under Weather and Astronomy.

PhoenixRisingtw t1_j6mzh94 wrote

Is that a thing? Is it difficult to jailbrake? I've never had a jailbroken iPhone, I'm sure there are a lot of neat things you can do with it. I'm worried about battery life on iOS 16 tho.

1

iPodee t1_j6n0cgq wrote

iPhone 7 isn’t supported on iOS 16. Jailbreaking iOS 15 and making it have iOS 16 features from newer iPhones is possible.

1

PhoenixRisingtw t1_j6n4td8 wrote

Oh, I thought you can get iOS 16. Like with those patches on Mac which let you update to newer unsupported OS versions.

1

iPodee t1_j6n5ue1 wrote

You might be able to, if you can manage to get an iPhone 7 to boot iPadOS 16.

I have a Iphone 14 Pro Max and Hey Siri works while this is enabled. Apple probably only allows both to work simultaneously when you have the latest pro model version. They probably state that other models don't have enough AI processing power. :-)
