stolen iPhone what to do

i got my phone stolen two days ago and when i put it into lost mode, it says pending. same with the erase device option. someone in my contacts texted me thru my MacBook saying that they got a phone call this morning from my number. im confused on how they did that and i genuinely don't know what other steps i can take to make sure my data doesn't get stolen.

They took the sim out ans using your data/voice line on another phone?

As others have said you need to call your provider.

But also, it’s too late now but you can set a sim pin that stops someone from moving the sim to a different phone to use it.
