I think it broke during a time I didn’t have a case on my phone, I can’t really remember as I think it’s been on there almost 2 years now. No, I don’t think the glass protector would interfere, if anything it makes it a bit more protected

You don’t need additional tempered glass on the back. Just a well-fitting case or a decal like Dbrand on the back.
Plus, with the frosted glass on the back of the pros, the scratches really don’t show unless you’re aggressive and going caseless.

A well-fitting case won’t allow dust in easily. And, if you clean your phone often enough, you won’t have to worry about it. Even just once a month, taking it out of the case and polishing with a cloth will work. For example, I use the nomad leather case and I never see dust or dirt under the case on the glass when I take it off.

It's probably the matte oleophobic coating that's being scratched. The iPhone 11 and up started having this coating on the back glass. It naturally wears away with use anyway, especially around the corners being taken in and out of a case, or if no case it will wear off over time.
You can try and protect it I guess, but I wouldn't bother. There are products available that can reapply a similar coating, or you can also polish it off to just a glass surface.

Yes mine also has a soft fabric lining that helps a lot with the dust and scratches.

Each time I get a new phone, I simply take the paper screen protector thing from the brand new iphone and trim out the section for the camera bump and stick that on the back of the phone. The back of my phone is pristine whenever I've removed it from the case despite the dust that gets in there. It costs nothing but a little time.

I just use the apple silicone case and haven’t had any issue but they are soft backed inside

Nice hack!

Just take your case off and clean it from time to time. Problem solved.

I have a tempered glass on the back of my iPhone and it never causes an issue with cases. Actually the glass protector is all smashed up but the phone glass is fine but I don’t bother replacing the protector because I can’t see it anyway 🤣
