As far as I understand it, the water message is tripped by a short circuit between the contacts. Check to make sure all debris is cleaned from inside the port.

This. If there truly is no water, a short is probable. That's not good but if OP Is really really lucky, the short is in the charging cable and not the iPhone lightning port.

Shove some tissue in there make sure it’s dry, once you’re certain there’s no moisture at all, restart the phone and that’ll reset the warning. Should be good to go after that!

I had this problem once when of my cables started failing. It apparently was causing a problem that gets interpreted by the phone as a possible liquid short.

I plugged the cable into another device and it reported the same error. Replaced the cable; no more problem.

YMMV.

Had this same issue with my 11. Switched to another cable and the problem was resolved.

Same here. Cheap cable did it straight away. Other cables were fine.

I had same issue despite it being nowhere near water or wet hands. And since then, the charger has been funny. Maybe it’s a fault with the connection?

What are some of the jokes your charger likes to tell you?

It definitely likes a dad joke

Got this error and now the phone will not charge using a cable. Only wireless. Phone doesn’t even recognize any cable when plugged in.

It’s a issue that’s not known for some reason! I’ve had this issue many times! Also I’ve had the issue where I’d plug the phone in and it would charge then stop so I’d have to flip the charger for it to work! Only on Apple cords! Never experienced this with third party

Maybe your phone is too drippy in style so you have to make it look ugly
