Nothing. You’re immediately more cautious.

I used to have a case ever since the“invention“ of the camera bump. But I wanted to be able to see the color of my phone and not hide it behind another generic black case. Now I’m Case free for about a month and so far it’s been wonderful!

I'd love to go caseless but I'm scared to scratch the cameras. Do you put your phone face down? I always like to keep mine face up, but I guess it'd be a change of habit if I were to go caseless.

That’s the thing. I used to lay down my phone everywhere. Now that there is no protection anymore I just don’t. Always in my pocket if I’m not using it.

I believe you’re much more likely to scratch the screen(or back glass even) than the camera. The lenses are still (to my knowledge) sapphire crystal (ever since the 6 I believe?) so while it’s not impossible it would take placing it on like rough concrete for it to be truly affected imo.

Interesting. I just looked into the apple watches screen (i still have the series 4) & its the Ion-X & mine has taken a couple hard hits &there's hardly any scratches. & according to google the sapphire is harder compared to the ion x. So I think that eases my worries a little bit.

Yes, ion-x is apple (and I guess the industries) best attempt at mimicking sapphire crystal. Its the best they can do to minimize the price on the watches but they’ll likely never replace it for camera lenses until they synthesize new glass tech.
at the end of the day, for even more peace of mind, you’d need something with a hardness scale of 9 to scratch sapphire crystal. So you’d basically need to be putting it camera down on sand paper (which includes materials like corundum—H9 hardness) to scratch it.
For even more reference/reassurance— sapphire crystal sits next to diamond on the hardness scale. Whereas even Ion-X glass sits a lot closer to quarts.
Basically the metal lining the camera and the back glass itself will scratch way before the lenses on the camera. Even putting your phone in a pocket or bag with keys will destroy the screen before you notice a nick on the camera lens
Hope that helps ease the mind. Also not to sub-nerd out on glass lmao, it’s kinda crazy how far we’ve come
