Hello,

Switched my wifes line from Pixel 4a to Iphone 14pro and on at&t. Esim setup was painless.

But when an android user sends an sms/text message, it was showing up on per old pixel 4a and not on the new iphone? The only thing active on that old phone was wifi and the google account! How? ATT support after much time said I have to contact apple support!

We had some android friends send her an SMS, they seem to get either not delivered or something like "wait for [contact name] to be online" sort of prompts.

Any pointers why andrioid to iphone sms isn't working flawlessly?

Had she enabled the enhanced chat features on android(RCS)? That could be what is doing it?

I’ve never heard of this before, it’s usually the other way round due to iMessage!

Not certain but I think this is a very likely culprit. She likely needs to unregister RCS "chat" messages on her old phone, but if it's inaccessible, she can do it from a web page here:

https://messages.google.com/disable-chat

That's Google's page with instructions to do it from both the old phone or the website linked within. The kicker is that they say it can take several days, up to a week.

Think of RCS as Google's iMessage, accept it's supposed to be a universal standard...though Apple refuses to use it as a standard until forced to, I think when 6G becomes a thing. Until then Apple wants this shit to happen so people stick with iPhones.

Are other cellular features working such as making and receiving cellular calls, and accessing cellular data (wifi off or out of range)?

Have you followed steps for issues with messages after setting up new device?

I have 4 years iOS tech experience

If the rcs chat thing works great, but if not trust me, try these steps and/or reach out to apple support 800-275-2273 in usa

I had to get into the message settings on my old pixel and un-enable chat. That worked for me.

>On her old adrioid phone (tied to her google account), I saw Chat enabled. So, I have disabled it. Now, messages don't show up on her old android device.

But, I think her other friends who are on android when the send a text, is not coming though successfully into the iphone. The android sender seem to be getting a not delivered. (Now, I can't ask all her android senders to disable chat in their messaging app :))
