Cooling Phone with Water?

I have an iPhone 13 mini and as you guys may know, it gets quite hot when playing games (Apex Legends). I don't play games much on the phone (I don't even use it a lot). But because it gets so hot, I just put the phone under the tap and let the water rinse off the heat from the back and the front screen. I am doing this because the phone is rated IP68. But I don't know if I should continue doing this. I have done this twice as of now.

Phone is 4 Months old.

The phone is perfectly capable of managing its own thermals. If it starts to get too hot for the CPU or battery it will throttle the performance until it cools down to safer operating temperatures. The chipset can handle getting pretty hot.

You do your thing and let it worry about the rest.

I mean this seriously - you should look into a larger phone like the Pro Max.

thermal envelope is bigger. The mini has the tightest internals so its gonna heat up faster since its the same CPU.

theres really no good answer for your problem but its an intriguing one :-)

Cooling down a component cpu like an intel or Ryzen involves thermal paste between the die heat spreader and heat sink/fan (or de-lidding, in extreme cases) - not something easily accomplished with a mobile phone.

as dumb as this sounds, maybe just point a regular desk fan at yourself/phone while gaming. The airflow will help a bit (but not as effective as your water boarding technique … LOL, i kid, i kid.)

lol I game on my PC mostly. It’s a Ryzen Radeon Build. But lately I started apex mobile. It’s fine. Won’t do any weird shit like that.

Also I hate big phones.

The big thing is water resistance wears off over time. Apple doesn’t cover water damage even in the first year of the warranty. Apple doesn’t even claim it’s waterproof but claims water resistant. You can find tons of posts where people have gotten their device wet and now the camera doesn’t work or the display is discolored or it won’t turn on at all. For this reason, I never get my phone wet on purpose.

This is extremely bad for the battery as well as what everyone else is saying. Batteries like heat but not sudden drops in temperature change, can damage their overall life.

I’ve done this with my 12 PM for years. No issues yet. I haven’t done it more than a few dozen times total though. I just hold an ice cube on the back.
