I know, I know, it’s old, but mom refuses to get newer phone. I’ve tried everything. IOS is up to date. Grey bar is not the home bar. I’m not able to put any apps on it whatsoever.

does this presist after clean ios install? is it visible only when ios is booted or all the time when the screen is on?

You should try a DFU mode reset and reinstall iOS through iTunes if you haven't already. Try overwriting the entire OS

So what version iPhone is this? You might be in tough spot if you somehow did a software update that wasn’t compatible

How would he update iOS on an iPhone model that’s not eligible for that specific version? It doesn’t work like this.

Yeah that’s why I said somehow. Literally don’t know what going on so just spitballing. Not sure if it’s jail broken or anything, got no info

Yea, there’s a lack of info. I was also thinking jailbreak in the back of my mind. If the phone was reset and set up as new the dock would be filled with some standard apps.
