It’s a factory usb cable but I can try another one. Rest of the cables throughout the house have no issues

The cable and or the charging brick you use for overnight charging your problem then.

Swap the cable with a known good one you have in the house and see what happens. If problem still occurs then swap charging bricks.

What do you use to clean it? I've tried one of those duster cans and a pin, but afraid to scratch/damage it.

I use a wooden toothpick that I’ve nibbled the end a little bit on. The roughened up slightly moist wood works great for grabbing lint and dust really well and no metal on metal damage.
