Hello fellow redditors.

I'm looking to buy the iPhone 14 Pro Max and I'm under the suspicion that the only reason for me is the "Dynamic Island". I'm a 12 Pro Max owner and I'm happy with the phone. Do you find this feature useful and if you do can you give me few examples please?

Thank you.

Not really. It’s there and looks nice but I very rarely interact with it based on the apps I use.

I have a 14PM and I like it. My favourite uses is Spotify where it displays small album cover and I also like the animation when a timer is set. It doesn’t seem to get in the way and more apps will utilise or do utilise it I’m sure.

I got the 14 about a month ago and I saw so much eye rolling and mocking of the dynamic island that I had no hopes for it.

I’ll tell you this. I love it.

Is it some revolution in design? No. But I find it very useful.

It’s nice to have an active app, like music one click away via the island rather than swiping up and between apps. I love how if maps is minimized I still see directions in the island. It’s little stuff but all very user friendly and helpful imo

I am of the same opinion. The dynamic island wasn’t one of the reasons I upgrade to the 14 PM because I thought it would be a gimmick. Glad I was wrong.

I have the 14 PM. I think it's nice, but under utilized. Sure it's great for music control, but it could do so much more(sms, whatsapp, overall notifications)

Hmm... I barely uses it.

most useful would be the Spotify only

Yes. You can easily switch between core functions like phone calls, maps navigation, timers, alarms, music and so on. I regularly switch between google maps and Apple Music when I’m biking. And it takes me touch, there’s literally not a more efficient way to do this.

The dynamic island haters are mostly iPhone haters or people trying to find excuses for their old devices. I’m not saying you should definitely upgrade if you have a 13 pro but you also can’t say dynamic island sucks. It’s a genuine feature and it will only get better in time.

Very useful. I use safari to listen to YouTube videos when out on a walk/run and i can start the video, swipe to close safari then tap dynamic island right away and resume playing from there.

advantages are twofold - ads are skipped since YouTube seems to only do ads when safari is inn the foreground and two, screen goes off and phone is in standby so it sips battery.

love it!

edit: you can indeed do this with your current iPhone. This is more an iOS “hack” but DI’s interface is slightly more convenient - until Google modifies YouTube and stops it LOL

The dynamic island isn’t something that gets used a lot by me. That said, apart from Reddit I don’t have any social media apps nor do I use any sports apps which seem to be the main usage for the DI. But - I don’t find it intrusive or in the way or annoying or anything like that, even when I’m watching videos. It’s main use is the Pixel Pal when browsing Reddit on Apollo.

It does cut a bit more into videos on full screen, but since most widescreen media seems to still be designed to be cropped to 4:3 viewing - I’m never really focused on that section of the screen. I’ve had the 14PM since launch and never experienced any of the glitches I’ve seen posted to this subreddit.

I went 13PM to the 14PM and the true benefits to me are the AOD and the peak brightness outdoors. If you spend any significant time outside, the 14s ability to pump up the brightness is incredible. You will be able to see the DI cutout clearly in direct sunlight as well - so if that would bother you I would consider maybe the 13PM if you really need an upgrade, or just hold out another 9 months till the 15.

But personally I wouldn’t purchase it solely based on the dynamic island. It’s kind of like the equivalent of an LED notification on a device. A nice gimmick - but not a reason to purchase the device.

I just got my 14 Pro Max… the store clerk explained it to me and from where I’m standing now, it looks like a better widget. Can see myself ignoring it, mostly.

Yes , it’s good, it will get better as more apps start to code it in

Surprisingly it is because it tells me the current audio output, and I can quickly pause or switch to that app. On the plus side it’s very aesthetically pleasing compared to the notch. I’m a big fan.

I like it a lot for when I’m listening to music, using my iPhone as a controller for Apple TV, on phones calls, and for pulling up my timers.

Those are things I use it for usually.

I purchased a 14 Pro Max 256GB today and will pick it up from the shop in next few days but in no rush as waiting for the screen protector to arrive in the post. I already bought and received an Element Black Ops X5 case so it's all coming together.

Upgrading from an iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB and looking forward to Dynamic Island.

I recall many were up in arms when Apple dropped Touch ID from the iPhone range to be replaced with Face ID. The majority of apps have now integrated Face ID log in and verification. Still, Apple haven't completely abandoned Touch ID as I'm typing on my Touch ID keyboard and I love the simplicity and integration with macOS.

I'm sure I won't be disappointed with Dynamic Island and fully expect third-party developers to take full advantage of the tech.

I was debating whether to get 13 or 14 for a while. im so glad I went woth 13 because that pill thing is so gimmicky and intrusive and distracting and personally I don't like it after seeing it, it's cool for like an hour and then you wish it wasn't there. 13 is as simple as it gets

I have a 14 Pro. Its nothing special. Very few apps utilize it, for me mainly spotify and timers. If i had a 12 Pro or 13 Pro i would not upgrade.

Just my 2cents. It’s a cool looking feature and is definitely nice to have, but it’s not a selling point on its own to upgrade to the pro series for dynamic island alone. I think the pro series is worth the upgrade for many other reasons, but the dynamic island is a “nice to have” feature more than a necessity.

is it cool to have yea, but is it a necessity no. There aren't many apps that use it..yet. I mean that will change as more developers will start to incorporate it. I like that I can put sports scores on the island and it shows the live score of games.

I don't use it frequently, I only use it for music that's all, it is not the big deal either

As typical fashion, to me it feels redundant and gimmicky. whatever you can do with it, you can do just as well and faster with other menus and gestures. clicking it brings you to the app which you can also swipe ur home bar for without having to reach so far up. holding it opens a small menu which again ppl that are used to doing with control center or from the app itself will do faster. dynamic island esthetically is pleasing but lacking in practice

I honestly l switched from 11 Pro to 14 Pro because of how the timers display on the DI since I use it to see how long I have before I gotta clock back in from break and lunch

It’s not too useful but I do like the aesthetics of it a lot, which is more of a plus than you think.

I don’t really find myself using it much. I mainly use it for music apps, but even then, I think it’s much easier to just swipe down the notification shade and use the music controls from there. I try to force myself to use it for other things but most of the apps I use don’t utilize it. However, I do like the look of it compared to the original notch.

Top-Sink t1_j63j51z wrote

I don’t like it personally. The notch was useless, but because it was useless, I never paid any attention to it. With the dynamic island, I’m constantly looking at it and noticing this big spot with nothing there. It has its uses, but I don’t find myself using it very muvh
