Does anyone actually use the charging port on their new iPhones?

I have an iPhone 13 with a MagSafe case and all. I didn’t realize how deeply absorbed into the MagSafe products I was until someone at my uni asked if they could borrow a charger for their iPhone XS.

I dug through my pack pack, but all I had were MagSafe chargers (the ones that cling to the back of the phone) and MagSafe battery packs! I felt kinda embarrassed then I realized the only lightning charging cable I have is the one attached to my car radio! (Luckily my battery pack allows wireless charging devices to charge too it just doesn’t activate fast charging)

I’ve been using the lightning port exclusively as a glorified aux/usb port since I got the phone!

In my experience it charges just as fast if not faster than using the lightning cable, but I need to know if I’m just a crazy person or if a majority of users also use MagSafe this much.

13 Pro Max. Have had it just over a year. I don’t believe I have ever used the port on this phone.

Wireless charging has been one of those “if I doesn’t have I won’t buy” for a while for me now.

Back when I had an iPhone XS I only used wireless charging at night because it was so unbelievably slow, BUT my charging port actually ended up getting slightly worn because of all the times I would plug and unplug the phone! (Both with headphones and charger)

Conclusion: Yes, people do continue to use the charging port — more so than not.

Wireless charging has taken a chunk of users, though. MagSafe seems to be the primary wireless charging option for iPhone users in this sub — which is a decent first ‘win’ for MagSafe in iPhones. Still a ways to go to catch the traditional lightning cable, though.

I charge it via cable in my car on road trips, or if I’m visiting family and they have charging cords available.

Otherwise it’s all MagSafe now.

I use a cable in the car when using GPS.

I have never carried any charging cables in my bag because I always have dedicated chargers where I need them at home, work, and in the car.

I always use the port for charging, though I have a 13 Pro Max so topping up throughout the day isn't necessary for my use case. I can count on one hand the number of times I've used wireless charging since my first phone I had that supported it...in 2016. They could remove wireless charging from my iPhone and I would neither notice nor care.

I used wireless charging for a while on my old iPhone 11 and eventually switched back to wired. I use an older Lightning to USB-A cable and Anker charger with my 13 Pro Max. Takes a while but as long as I connect it after dinner, it should be complete by bedtime.

I do because sometimes I want the charging to be faster, I transfer photos and videos to my laptop, and I put MP3s on my iPhone.

I never use wireless chargers because I find them to be excruciatingly slow. I mean if that’s all I got then I’ll use it but I prefer to use my port just because it’s much faster.

I prefer charging with the cable - faster, more efficient and my phone doesn’t get hot when wired charging like it does with wireless. 13PM.

I thought MagSafe was gonna be cool but it’s just okay. I use a popsocket and I’d have to take it off to charge with MagSafe. Also the Cord is too short and if it’s gonna be connected to something anyways, I’d just as well use the port so it doesn’t get as hot. I could get back onboard with MagSafe one day but for now it just doesn’t provide any benefits.

IPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. Never use the charging port. Have a wireless magsafe charging stand at home and in the car wireless charger air vent holder.

I think IPhone 16 will be wireless only, especially due to the EU ruling that in 2024 Apple iPhone must be USB C. They'll get round that by simply making them portless.

Wireless CarPlay isn’t quite ubiquitous enough juuust yet.
