So not exactly a Jersey City post, but I live in JC and y’all seem to know what’s happening around the area so figured I’d ask. Anyone know other NJ areas that have ethic communities that have good authentic restaurants? I’ve obviously gone to Little India here in JC, and have done a lot of food exploration in Brooklyn and Queens, but I’ve never explored Jersey and I know there has to be some great grub out there. Only caveat is that I’m vegetarian and my partner is pescatarian. Im all about a good road trip so not afraid to drive an hour or so for something solid. Thanks for any help or specific dishes or restaurants!

I'm sure you had your fill of Indian in JC, but Edison is also a VERY well known (and of course veggie friendly) enclave in NJ. This may be a hot take but Mithaas Edison >> Mithaas JC.

Chef's Table >> Shere Punjab > Any of those places in the "Desi Galaxy Foodcourt" >> Mithaas Edison + JC combined. Mithaas Edison has gone down in quality significantly in the last 3-4 years. Also I wish Talk of the Town came back...

Palisades Park for fantastic Korean. Fort Lee for Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Newark's Ironbound for Portuguese, Brazilian and, increasingly, Central American -- though not exactly vegetarian-friendly fare, there are some decent seafood-centric spots. Staten Island -- not Jersey, but close enough -- has a concentration of Sri Lankan restaurants.

heck yeah! Thank you. And yep, been to Newark and the Brazilian places think that vegetarian means that I’ll just eat an entire chicken

If you're in the area, Mitsuwa Marketplace in Fort Lee is an incredible Japanese supermarket, and they also carry some Chinese and Korean products as well. Their food court is worth a trip in and of itself, esp for Santouka Ramen.

Paterson for lots of Arabic/Middle Eastern food. The Fort Lee area-ish for lots of Korean and Japanese.

Wallington/Passaic has a huge polish population and some amazing restaurants.

Same goes for Peruvian food in Patterson

Wallington or Linden/Rahway for Polish food (Tatra Haus in Wallington is my fave)

Ironbound/Kearny/North Arlington for Portuguese food (Texeira’s Bakery and Cafe Mauro are good options since you’re vegetarian)

Mitsuwa marketplace in Edgewater for Japanese
