What weird assumptions will people make for listing a price on a post where you are advertising a room for rent? It's standard practice.

if it's too cheap someone assumes it's rundown/there's something hidden, too high for what they consider good enough for the area it's a scam etc... i am also vetting the people who respond and didn't necessarily want to respond what could be a ton of people

Got i. I can tell you as someone that's moved 5 times in the past 9 years in Jersey City that I would not even consider contacting someone if they advertised a room available without a price shown, even if there were pictures (which you don't have) and I loved the place. Good luck.
