How hard is it to find street parking in the Heights?

I would like to move to the Heights. I have a car though, and finding an apartment with off street parking is very hard.

I used to live in center city Philadelphia and have street parking nightmares, I could only drive my car at very certain times of the day or else there would be no parking.

Is street parking in the Heights hard to find? Thanks.

I grew up in the heights but moved out 12 years ago. I left because of how densely populated it was and far from the light rail. Plus parking was always a nightmare.

Parking sucks after 7pm. But you'll usually find something, just be prepared to park a block or two away. Or worst case park near a corner and roll the dice on a parking ticket.

West part, past Kennedy, it's alright. There are always spots.

If you are closer to Palisade and get home after 6 or 7, forget it. There's almost nothing. Most people just park on crosswalks or bus stops at that point and move it early to avoid a ticket.

Can vary block-by-block but I live close to Riverview and I found parking so completely frustrating to the point where I gave my car to my parents (who live in the burbs). So many curb cuts and the 4x/week street cleaning made it such a pain. I now walk / take the bus for everything and it’s fine.

You may need to circle the block a few times, and/or park a block or two from your apt. It can be a challenge. In my experience, it's a little easier West of Summit Ave.

I live on Palisade near Christ Hospital and it’s usually pretty easy. Like others have said, certain times are tricky but I have never been totally unable to park.

I also work from home so moving the car for street cleaning during the day is very easy.

What part of the Heights? I tend to think it’s a lot easier than Philly. Less density and parking authority enforcement is not as crazy as Philly. You just will have challenges after 6-7pm at night.

It's not impossible but the spots that tend to be open are the ones with street cleaning the next morning, so you'll have to make sure to move your car at a certain time if you wfh or don't leave by a certain time. Does get harder to find parking during the evening time as well like everyone else stated. Ended up renting a spot in someone's driveway just for the piece of mind to not have to worry about the headache of looking for a parking spot. As an aside, I remember visiting Philly not too long ago and thought the parking was atrocious and I'm originally from NYC myself. Welcome to the Heights if you do happen to move here!

Do you definitely need to keep your car? Take it with a grain of salt, but Jersey City just edged out Philly in a recent study of cities where it is easiest to live car free. Just search this sub for parking and Heights and you'll find anguished car owners frittering away hours of their lives looking for parking, dealing with permits, raging over tickets, and furious with their neighbors' parking behavior. If you can opt out, do it!
