The People’s Park Foundation is associated with the golf course owner, and they come back again and again, just like lanternflies

Damn good analogy cuz those lantern flies truly disturb me just like these “revitalize” LSP folks. Can’t I just have a green space?

These clowns are back at it.

A state park should be a state park — not some fever dream boondoggle of stadiums and gyms.

This is a state park but in an urban area with 600 acres of land. I don’t think allowing 60-80 acres to build a community center and some ball fields is too much to ask. That would leave over 500 acres of natural open space. Not to mention cleaning up the 250 acres of contamination that fills this park!

Let’s build those things on the nearby underutilized golf course. I’ve lived in town for decades and I’ve yet to ever meet anyone who’s played golf there, lol. Tear down that eyesore and let the people use the land.

“Advocates” 🙄

Absolutely!! We are advocates who live in Jersey city and are looking out for the well being of our youth, adults and seniors.

We know who and what you are advocates for. (And it’s not the well-being of the local community.)

As a newer JC resident (~2yrs) but frequenter of LSP (a least every other week), do those that are ardently against outside development have any proposals to improve the park in its current state?

I wander all over the park birding but can’t help but notice…

  • grove of remembrance routinely overgrown in the summer, including the 9/11 roundabout plaque area
  • south cove beach and black Tom piers littered with tidal ocean trash
  • nature center pond choked off with algae
  • nature center trails and vegetation blanketed by invasive vines
  • sink holes along north cove waters edge
  • half sunken boat along south entryway (since sandy?)

I love this park and am thrilled to track the countless wildlife species I’ve found within. Similarly I understand the land’s industrial past and the drastic changes in the last few decades and have seem small investments the past few years….

But still seems unfinished and underutilized given how close it is to do many residents. People only congregate in the RR terminal, the central play ground and waters edges. The vast middle is always empty.

Guess what I want to say for those so against development plans— are we happy as it is or what else is there to do?

Seems you’re a newer r/jerseycity user too cause all this sub does is complain about everything

That is actually spot on I just reactivated my Reddit account last month after a 4 year hiatus!

I’m almost as predictable.

Community gardens and a community center don't sound like a bad idea but I'm not exactly sure why the need for more indoor sports courts and more athletic fields.

Also not exactly sure the feasibility of a performing arts space given the area.

Agreed, the article did mention that LSP has a lot of land behind a chain link fence that isn't currently used in any form (due to pollution) so a best case scenario I think would be cleaning up and using only that land. Otherwise the park is already great.

There are deer, birds, and small mammals living behind the fence. They need to remediate it, but do we really need more concrete?
