i would use a sans serif font and figure out what’s going on with west side on the map there. maybe show some love to paulus hook.

edit: change that middle lighter red west side to mcginley square

edit again: why not mimic the original typeface? unless it’s protected IP?

too much negative space between everything, especially down the middle.

I’ll leave the map to other people, but I think the font is too thin. If you want it to be a square, consider using a fatter, more modern font. It should look fun. This design is a little more formal than what I think you’re going for.

It’s also a little dark.

Paulus Hook has existed as a distinct neighborhood since the 1600s. There was even a revolutionary war battle in Paulus Hook for Christs sake. It is not a marketing term made up by real estate agents like many of the other neighborhoods (including "the waterfront" which is on this tee shirt) in downtown.

Battle of Paulus Hook

>The Battle of Paulus Hook was fought on August 19, 1779 between Continental Army and British forces in the American Revolutionary War. The Patriots were led by Major Light Horse Harry Lee, and launched a nighttime raid on the British-controlled fort in what is today downtown Jersey City. They surprised the British, taking 158 prisoners, and withdrew with the approach of daylight. Despite retaining the fort and its cannons, the British lost much of their control over New Jersey.

Also I'd argue "The Waterfront" is meaningless as it it subdivides pretty quickly. And if that's the only sub division of downtown it does seem more than a bit arbitrary. Lumping it all in as Down Town is fine, but peeling that one part off is sorta weird. If anything Newport has a history of being "not downtown, we're our own thing" since the redevelopment from industrial to a neighborhood.

Direct_Ad18 t1_j7z6ipf wrote

I agree that Newport deserves a spot but you then you can go down a rabbit hole of saying well what about Harborside, what about Harsimus Cove, etc.

And I agree, that was my only point in bringing up "the waterfront." It's the only downtown neighborhood listed on this shirt, which seems odd. Paulus Hook existed before downtown existed. If there was only one to separate out, I think it should be Paulus Hook. But certainly the case could be made for more. Newport would be next for me.

Paulus Hook is part of Downtown. It is NOT a section on par with Bergen Lafayette. If the OP was to try and include every neighborhood "area" the map would be an unstable mess crowded with things like Hamilton Park, VVP, Paulus Hook, Bergen Hill, etc.

Umm.....you stole this art/map from someone else...what a shame...get a life!

But...I've got an original idea for you. Make a shirt (for yourself) that says "I <3 Stealing Art"

Hey… come on man. There’s no need for that

Either way, this poser stole my post of an old old old idea.

Check out the new ones I’ve created, maybe they’ll be more to your liking.

Original pieces made by someone born and raised here and theyre very personal.

If you don’t like them, save yourself the emotional bandwidth and ignore it. For your sake

Getting weird energy from these comments. Hope you’re doing okay

This particular design was made by me. Definitely inspired from other popular designs - but I thought it would be cool to have a Jersey City version of it. Especially since Jersey City has an anatomical heart shape

This is a design I’ve been working on and there have been many iterations - consider looking at my post history to see how far friends from Reddit and I took this concept
