Craving french fries lately, something I usually skip for side salads.

Where can I get the best fries downtown JC area or nearby? You know the kind, crispy on the outside and soft inside.

Thanks!

I've had wurstbar's happy hour fries more times than I can count, but most of the time they're on the greasy side.. Still good with their various dipping sauces

If you can get a pack that isn’t a bunch of stubby ends.

Daaaaamn! Shots-Fired. I’ve been burned before by those stubby ends too. You are right. I’ll rephrase: When Bob White’s fries are on point they are imo the best in town.

I mean the fries taste like fried chicken so a lot can be overlooked. They are tasty.

Ok I now realize this is asking for French fries in DTJC but I cannot bring myself to delete this comment. These fries (although in Bergen Lafayette) reign supreme fr.

The little sandwich shop makes really good battered fries. And a pretty solid chicken cheesesteak.

If you like waffle fries, the ones at Mathews are some of my favorite. They go really well with the cheeseburger burger and chicken BLT sandwich.

The Greek fries at Ella Greek Kitchen are good too.

The Mathews gluten free fries + garlic aioli is so good. I’m not gluten free but they are great.

But… most fries are gluten free?

Lol good point. That’s just what they call them on the menu so I wasn’t thinking it through

It's Five Guys. They're cut daily, double fried and with optional Cajun seasoning. Hot and plentiful.

No one ever recommends the lobster garage fries but they are my favorite. They're amazing for a basic fry. They're not fancy, but they are perfectly cooked; thin and crispy, like McDonald's but elevated. They season with old bay and give an amazing dipping sauce.

Not sure if they’re best in downtown, but I enjoy the ones from Diesel and Duke’s. Good enough to eat without any kind of dip, which is IMO the litmus test for a good fry.

Maritime Parc, they’re made by Chef Silverston and have won tons of awards, they’re called duck fat fries because they’re fried in duck fat, supposedly giving them such a great flavor + plus the seasoning! If you like fries I’d definitely recommend checking them out!!!

Do not eat there I trained to be a bartender there and the bar I was at was so disgusting I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve been in food service since the 90’s. They were upset I was cleaning but I couldn’t just stand around with all that filth.

Most-Candy-1246 t1_ja5b96p wrote

Really wow I would’ve never guessed. I just moved here a few months ago and the place has always looked spotless when I’ve been there. New management maybe?

Tigerchestnut13 t1_ja8pp10 wrote

It was really bad, they never called me to train again but I wasn’t exactly excited to go back.

I'll make the case for Abbey's: crisp, crunchy, and....potato-y in a way a lot of other fries aren't

Not JC but the best fries I ever had were in Manhattan at Iris . Takes 3 days to prepare. The crisp level is otherworldly due to the first step of a glucose soak before the first cook. But for JC I like archer duck poutine and Ella Greek fries and of course McDonald's fries 🍟 when I feel really bad lol

No-Practice-8038 t1_ja20zx9 wrote

Not sure why the down votes. I have not had French Fries in ages. I make them at home in my cast iron. With a touch of olive oil, pepper, sea salt and paprika.

I make mine too and they're better than any around. And it's such an easy thing to do. 🤷‍♂️
