Has anyone lived in Weehawken? Was it impacted by Ida and Sandy? Debating between JC and Weehawken. Appreciate any insights

Really nice. The only issues are if you have to go to Manhattan a lot. Your choices are basically the ferry which doesn't run all hours or you have to do a musical chairs of taking the light rail to the Hoboken PATH station and then taking the PATH. That's the reason I didn't end up there. It's too convoluted to easily get into the city if you don't take the ferry. Timing all those trains up is a pain and super inconsistent during non business hours. But the neighborhood is lovely.
If you have to work or spend a lot of time in Manhattan especially if you're there late I'd recommend Jersey City. It's slightly more expensive but the transit options are much better. There's PATH trains to both 6th Avenue (up to 33rd Street) and World Trade Center where you can easily hit a ton of lines in the city. Jersey City is also slightly easier to get in and out of if you have a car (not by much) and of course there's just way more there overall. Restaurants, shops, hotels, bars, JC is a big city.
As far as flooding yes it can be an issue. I don't know if it's an issue at Port imperial specifically as most of that development is post Sandy. But Edgewater floods for sure and Hoboken took it on the chin. But that entire drive up the river through Weehawken, Guttenberg, West NY and Edgewater, along the river is beautiful and it would be a great place to live all things considered. In a lot of ways you get a suburban lifestyle directly across from Manhattan.

This is not entirely accurate. The ferry runs every 20 minutes until 11pm on the weekdays and until midnight on Fridays/Saturdays. And there are buses that get you straight to Port Authority. They come quite often during commute times. I've never encountered flooding issues in Port Imperial.

Just to be clear, I think you're talking about the ferry to midtown - the ferries to other parts of Manhattan only operate for brief windows in the early morning and early evening.

The ferries aren’t bad at all and are consistent, but definitely more expensive.

I think the part of Weehawken affected the most by Sandy is the small neighborhood near the exxon station (near the exit to the Lincoln tunnel). The waterfront also flooded but most buildings escaped major damage.
Lincoln Harbor is nice because you're a short walk into Hoboken, there's a whole foods right there, and easy bus/ferry access to nyc (or light rail into Hoboken/JC). A lot of newer buildings, plus more going up as we speak. Downside is rents are high (over $3k for a 1 bedroom).
Port imperial is another solid option - a lot of what I said for Lincoln Harbor also applies here. But it's a bit farther from Hoboken so not really walkable. Same newer buildings, same high rents.
Weehawken above the cliff is much more similar to jersey city heights. Older colonial housing. Limited parking. But gorgeous views by Blvd East. Bus or jitney is the main transportation method to nyc. Rents will be lower unless you're right on Blvd East.

consider downtown union city and jc heights east of central if you’re interested in weehawkin heights. way more affordable.

I’m in Weehawken up on the cliff, right on the Union City border. The bus service to Manhattan is amazing up here. I never wait more than 3-4 minutes. That’s because so many different lines converge here. It is a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood but with plenty of access to Manhattan, Hoboken and JC.

I lived up on the hill for years, Weehawken Heights. I loved it, it’s quiet and family friendly, amazing views of the city, and the best public schools in Hudson county. Would have stayed if we could afford a stand-alone house but we just couldn’t make it work.
