I have a bit of a conundrum that I need some advice on. I live in Zone 16 for two years now in The Heights and have never had an issue with permit ticketing. This morning at 4:40am my entire street got hit with permit parking tickets. Yes I know I should have the parking permit but two things, my information is not linked to my Jersey City address which can be done but my girlfriend who has NY registration also received a parking permit ticket.

Is it possible to get two permits for my car and just use it for hers? Should I just ignore it and hope they don't come around again?

A couple of things to consider:

  1. Resident permit requires car registration, owner's DL, and lease/deed to have the same address. So it is not possible to get a parking permit for someone else, or your own car if these docs are not synced.

  2. AFAIK, each address in JC (or apartment/unit it is a multi-family building) can get at most one parking permit. If the building comes with parking, you need a letter from management/HOA to say there is no more space for you to rent/buy.

  3. I am not sure about the rules posted on your street but usually zone permits are only enforced from 7-9 (or 9-5) on weekdays. In general, they should not ticket you on weekends or in the night, unless there are some other rules like 24H no parking.

Anyway, if you feel you were ticketed incorrectly, you can always appeal it. If there is indeed a no parking rule at 4:40AM, just pay the ticket, then either get a permit or take the chance (personally I cannot imagine someone going out at 4:40AM a lot just to ticket people). Hope this helps.

The issue is that people can self report people without permits and if they do, parking authority always come around. Whenever a whole street gets hit at once, I assume someone reported it so there is a risk they do it again. You can’t get 2 permits for 1 car, that doesn’t make sense

They are slaughtering the Heights right now and have been since earlier this week. People are getting tickets stacked up. You need to get some sort of permit or they will continuously ticket you until you do so.

Seems lucky you went 2 years without getting a zone ticket. You need to square up the reg, etc for both cars & get permits, or pay for off-street parking, or risk getting more tickets.
