I'm just looking for a mechanic to check out my car, mainly to fill and plug a slow leak in my tire if not outright replace it, maybe get a tune up if needed(not at the same time obviously) without burning a hole in my bank account.

Jack's Service on Summit Ave. in the heights is terrific. Reasonably priced, and honest, to the point where they once talked me out of an expesive repair!

Are they reasonably priced?

i've only had oil changes done there, and they are able to take me without a reservation, and turn it around in under an hour, and its like 70 or something. they have also alerted me to issues that were under warranty causing me to take the car to nissan before the issue turned into a worse issue.

it would be nice if whoever is downvoting us would say why. is there a reason to not like blessings on newark? they've done basic work for me quickly with low fuss. how about a comment instead of weird downvotes?

I haven’t downvoted anyone but it’s like How To Tell Me You Don’t Know How To Use The Reddit Search Box (without telling me that you don’t know how to use the Reddit search box)? It’s not as though the question hasn’t been answered so many times before.

Omar's Discount Tire and Auto Repair in Union City (just over the edge of the JC Heights border) has been pretty straight-up with me over the years. Despite the name they do more than tires. Great Yelp reviews, which is what made me go there in the first place (and seemed pretty unusual for car mechanics around here!). They've always been very straight-up about costs, very straight-up about what they can and can't do, very good about giving advice on things (including in way that doesn't make them money in the short term). You can call them and a real human will answer the phone and answer questions. Only downside (for me, YMMV) is they always keep Fox News blasting in the little office (sigh). We use them for anything that we don't want to take to the dealer (oil changes, tires, checking out potential problems, etc.) because the dealer always charges an arm and a leg even if they don't do anything.

My brother is the best in the city! He works off communipaw near the Lightrail as LSP, the garage burned down but he’s still hustling and working hard, guarantee it’ll be cheaper than any of the others, AND you’ll have the added benefit of helping to repair the garage and replace lost equipment, all for a good price!

Summit Auto is my go to. Super fast, friendly, and inexpensive (in my experience).
