Hi, I'm an incoming freshman in County Prep as a Medical Science major! I have a few questions for anyone who goes there. Are the kids extremely competitive? Does the environment get really stressful? Is it hard to stand out academically? Also, anyone from the G&T program there, is it hard to get into? Any advice?

Sorry to be bombarding yall with so many questions, but I'm really nervous and I have NO IDEA what County Prep is like. I'm anxious but also excited. I know Medical Science in general is VERY competitive so I want to know what the Medical Science kids in County are like. (Although I know sometimes the admissions process of kids can be questionable) Do people from County often go to Ivies?

(I don't mean to come off as an annoying obsessive nerd)

You are not an annoying obsessive nerd! It’s good to do your research. (I don’t have any answers for you but I hope others do!)

Thanks, I just worry sometimes when asking too many questions makes people think I'm all frantic and stuff like that. I just wanna be well informed.

Honestly will keep it real , county prep is not a good school for college preparedness . You have to go out of your way for literally everything that revolves around college when that time comes around, or that’s at least how it was when I was there half decade ago. N most cp students are in the med science program , nothing about it is competitive cause it’s just high school classes but senior year you’ll get to take med sci courses with Rutgers i think which is cool and there’s a med sci club called hosa too where u do competitions n events

Not many kids go to ivy cause again the school sucks at college preparedness so I’d say really stay on top of that stuff man, you’ll have to do it on ur own, when it comes to APs, taking college courses during high school, etc. but other than lack of college preparedness, cp is a fun school, glad I went there i guess but really wish they helped kids more w college . If u go out of ur way a shit ton n grind out you’ll be good

Keep in mind It’s high school bro, so know there’s nothing competitive, just some regular med sci classes to expand ur knowledge. Plus the hcst majors or vocations as they call it don’t define a students future career; when I was there, many students chose culinary as a major because they got free food at the end of everyday. In reality, only a handful out of those many students pursued culinary in college or culinary school. One of my best friends did med sci in cp and now he’s a finance major. So no not competitive bro, just enjoy ur high school experience and make sure u grind and go out ur way

Did you tour County Prep? Have you been assigned a guidance counselor? If so reach out to them. If you have chosen your classes reach out to your teachers. Most teachers would be happy to answer any and all your questions.

And yes it is very competitive because they accept really smart and well rounded individuals.

My nephew was denied admission because he was misadvised at his grammar school concerning a math class.

There's no tours for freshman before the school year starts apparently! But when I do get assigned a guidance counselor, thank you I will reach out to them and when I do chose my classes I'll be sure to reach about to my teachers. Thank you!
