They really shouldn’t let us turn right on red. Makes it way too easy to get hit while biking or walking

Right on red is something that should never be allowed anywhere where it's even possible for there to be pedestrians. Such a prime example of making life extremely dangerous for peds in the name of slight convenience for drivers

Right on red started in the 70s during a gas crisis - allegedly to keep from people burning extra gas while waiting for lights. It was supposed to be a full stop with no traffic or pedestrians in sight, but you know how that went. It should have been abolished ago because people behave like idiots.

Technically there can be pedestrians anywhere, even in the middle of the highway. I think there should be no right on red in areas beyond a certain density, which includes jc. It should be allowed elsewhere.

That was a proposal from the towns vision zero consultant, but not adopted

Disagree. Turn on red after complete stop is allowed.

Enforcing stop for red lights is important.

It is allowed, but it shouldn’t be. NYC has this right.

Who exactly is going to enforce it?

If its state law, a police officer can enforce it or if cameras are present, like in NYC, they can send you a ticket to pay.

You obviously haven’t lived here very long. JCPD does not enforce anything. This is the problem.

You don't understand logic.

"JCPD does not enforce anything." is a poor statement and obviously false.

You should not spread false statements. I have lived in JC long enough.

How many fucking cops do you think there are? You want a cop at every single light that allows right on red? It's impossible. There are significantly moreover important and dangerous traffic infractions and even those who can't be enforced. Just disallow it.

NYC has an existing system, you can't run a red light at many intersections without getting a ticket. Overall compliance everywhere improves as culprits change habits or lose permits.

In NJ too many traffic violations are observed every day in addition to running stop signs and red lights. There is frequent crossing of solid lines, many without signalling. (Some vehicles, including trucks and Amazon delivery vans, take short cuts cutting through a Pulaski exit lane which has solid lines on both sides). Accidents on and near Pulaski show up on google maps all the time. Cameras could reduce accidents and big trucks on Pulaski would soon vanish.
