this is such a great question and i feel like something that i've loved about JC that i didn't get when i lived in NYC

there are local neighborhood associations, animal rescues, park groups, gardening groups, volunteering organizations, reddit community meetups, and a lot of the highrises themselves have building facebook pages etc

Thanks for this. Can you recommend some organizations you're aware of or have participated in? The categories you listed out sound interesting.

Hi! I’d love to get a few suggestions for groups especially creative groups like those who are into books, writing, art, not sure if you’re familiar with those groups. Thanks!

Post on reddit about how our politicians run people over and then 911 won't respond to your call afterwards. As far as I can tell this is 85% of jersey city's culture.

Van Vorst park, but wouldnt mind traveling outside the neighborhood as i feel like for the most part everything is easily accessible

Start by going to the Van Vorst Park Association meetings held every month at the Barrow Mansion. You will meet people there that are involved in everything

Yeah great question. Moved here in September. Settling in to the Heights, and excited to get out and meet more people as the weather takes a warmer turn. I’ll be on the lookout for softball leagues, but interested in other activities too

There is a Discord server that has neighborhood 'channels', the Heights channel is pretty active. People coordinate planned meetups and also 'short notice' walks, activities, lunches, etc. The larger server also has a book club, a brewing club, a walking/hiking and climbing group, etc etc. Sports are less active but I've seen general interest in pickup basketball, tennis, etc. so someone just has to make it happen.

I guess it's kind of annoying to have to join yet another social platform but once you accept the basic rules and understand how to navigate the platform, it becomes fairly easy to coordinate and join activities.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

We run softball, kickball and volleyball leagues in town (and Hoboken). Would love to have you join us. Great way to meet people when you’re new to town or just want to be more social. Spring Registration is going on now with league’s starting in a couple of weeks.

With all of our leagues you can sign up as an individual, with a group of friends or with a full team.

Let me know if you have any questions

Become a regular at a few places and people will start to recognize you. Ask people their names when you meet them and try to remember them.

“Apart” or “a part”? I want to be the first one.

ribasad t1_jb9rxbg wrote

“A part” = to be participating, or a member of.

“Apart” = separated/distanced/away from.

^Hoping the above is useful; my assumption is that you mean “a part”.

Join a gym, go to bars on sports days (Giants, Jets, etc). Theres meetups for various interests, as well

As the most diverse city in the country, there are plenty of small communities that don't interact much with the other communities.

How do you identity? There’s a lot of families here, and groups associated with mamas, dads, families, etc. There’s also a few Women’s groups as well.
