I’m founding the selection process for the prep high schools of JC to be terribly disorganized and soul crushing to the kids. Even kids with first honors on all periods not being selected. And no communications at all if the kid is not selected. The families just have to “guess” that their kid didn’t get in.

Forget about the county HS. They’re mikes ahead. If you want a real mess, look even closer with JC HS like McNair. It’s like every year they’re surprised they need to select a new incoming class. You can’t get any dates or clear information. Fucking embarrassing.

Tbh I’m surprised the state let them handle it themselves. From what my aunts and uncles have said about the process it seems like a complete shit show

Sound like they are all a mess!! No clear information at all!! We also applied for McNair and we can’t get any info about when the acceptance letters will be sent out. It’s so terrible.

Not to mention that the dates for acceptance at the various magnet and private schools are all different, leading to having to make a commitment before you've heard from all of them.

Good luck. If it helps hearing from the other side of the process, my kids who went to McNair and their friends who went to the county schools all got well prepared for college and are doing great!

Going through college admissions with my older son now, and honestly it's so much easier than trying to get into a high school here. You have so many more options, the admissions departments are so much more organized, and if your kid isn't locked into one subject, colleges actually let you switch majors, unlike the county schools.

You know these are County ran high schools? and that high tech isn’t even located in Jersey City.

Yes. But this is where I live and I believe a lot of parents from this area applied or have kids already attending those places.

The county schools always seem to have some secret admissions process. Explore middle school is the same. My guess is the want a mix with a cross section of people from all the parts of the county rather than people with high academic scores.

Well I just got in myself from Bayonne and I gotta say the admissions is wack. Many kids got into County Prep and HighTech who were failing and those were excelling got denied. So on and so forth. Both schools have quite a questionable admissions process. I wouldn't sweat it, both schools don't have the BEST reputation when it comes to admitting students.
