Never learned how to swim. I just want to learn enough that I don't drown if there is a flood. Also want to learn how to dive off of cliffs/bridges into water safely.

I live near journal square. Can anyone recommend a good swimming school for adults? Most of the things that I could find were for kids. St. Peter's university has a swimming class, but I am not sure they take in adults.

I am in a similar boat about swim school. Adult and comfortable in water, but would love to learn it the right way. After initial research, I found British Swim School which has many locations in the area. They are supposedly slightly more expensive, but I prefer convenience. They have 3 locations in the city including a new one in The Heights.

I am strongly considering them too. How is your experience with them so far?

NJCU offers adult swimming lessons. I've taken them before and they are solid. The only downside is that they take place during the school year

Another vote for the YMCA option. Never used it for myself, but did lots of their programs for my daughter when she was younger and always great staff and results. The Chelsea location (YMCA McBurney) is particularly great and a two minute walk from the 14th Street PATH exit.
