I'm looking to get a pair of selvedge denim jeans hemmed and tapered. I tried DeCarlos but unfortunately they don't do tapering. Does anyone have a suggestion for a trusty tailor downtown?

Star Cleaners does a fine job and they're usually pretty efficient about it.

I go into the city. Self Edge can do it where they keep your original hem and will chainstitch. Pricey but great for any jeans you treasure. https://www.selfedge.com/index.php?route=information/repair

That's actually where I bought them, but they don't taper either, just hem. And I actually had them hem it for me and it ended up still way longer than we discussed. No big deal, but that was weird.

if you ask at decarlo for small jobs they send you to Star Cleaners.

Alterations to Go is great. They've done a great job on some pretty minor alterations on pants I needed hemmed and tapered in addition to a full job tailoring a bridesmaids dress that was probably 2-3 sizes too big for me.
