Hello,

I am currently living in one of those newport management buildings and I am considering renewing my lease. However, I am deciding between 12months or 16months since my company may relocate me to another country next year.

I know the best way to find out is to reach out to the management directly but I wanted to write here first to see if anyone has done it before and to ask for the personal experience (whether if it was smooth or it was a hassle). Also concern that they may not renew my lease if they know that I maybe moving out during my lease (which I may be overthinking).

I am talking about a complete lease take over instead of subletting since I won't be in US in that case.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

edit: I read the lease and didn't say anything about early termination or take over.

In my experience, if you decide to end your lease early, your landlord is required to put the apartment on the market and try to find new tenants. If they do, you’re golden. If they don’t, you’re on the hook for the lease. I’m betting that in JC, they won’t have a problem finding a new tenant

You can add others to the leasev and remove yourself. That will cost you a few $100 but you have to find the new tenants yourself. I'm sure Newport will let you terminate early too but it's going to cost you a couple months' rent

I’m leaving my apartment in Newport’s Parkside West 1 month early and unless they can fill it, we’re on the hook for that last month.

(If anybody wants a 3BR for around 4k I’ll give you a tour before it goes on market)

Hi! Thanks for the information and I hope they can fill it soon.
May I ask if you attempted to find a new tenant on your own and they allowed you to do it? For example, recommending a friend or someone from online who has good credit to Newport management.

I think legally they have to offer it to the public for non-discriminatory reasons. But, if I give them someone's info straight away, I don't see why they wouldn't at least consider them and let them apply.

If it’s a building owned by Veris … you will get NO help, NO flexibility… NOTHING

& they’ll probably charge you for inconveniencing them
